★ ★ ★ ★ ★ When you are visiting Manitoulin Island, there is a magical place on Perivale Road East, Spring Bay. It is the Perivale Gallery. The gardens are peaceful and so beautiful. When you enter the Gallery you are greeted by the friendly Owner/Curator, Shannon McMullan who is happy to answer any questions you might have. The work displayed is stunning. There is something for everyone. The highlight for me is the work by international artist Ivan Wheale. Don’t miss the opportunity to visit Perivale.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This hidden gem unfolded one beautiful surprise after another - from the gardens with inviting benches and tall sheltering trees, to room after room of evocative art works in varied mediums: acrylic, oil, watercolor, photography, textile, ceramic, and jewelry. Climbing the stairway to the second floor displays was like exploring a grandmother's attic full of hidden treasure. As I was leaving, Shannon asked if I had voted for my three favorites in the Spirit of Tom Thomson Show. I had not voted so I went back and looked again. I was amazed at seeing differently this time, as I carefully noted what touched me most in the show. I left this visit to Perivale Gallery ruminating on the difference this brief interaction made to my perception and wondering about the art courses that the gallery offers.

The art was unique and thoughtfully curated and I really enjoyed meeting the owner and learning the history of this beautiful gallery. I was particularly drawn to the imaginative pottery and found some gifts for loved ones. Loved the staff, the atmosphere and the grounds that surround this gorgeous hidden treasure! I will be back, and often!!

The art is an important reflection of Manitoulin Island culture and history and a visit here is highly recommended. There are both indoor and outdoor immersive attractions and I will cherish my memories of the visit for years to come.
