Penguin Restaurant & Bar

Was not all that impressed with the food, but am giving four stars for the service. I don't know who the blonde, swedish waitress is, but she was amazing. Great customer service. Unlike some places she kept our water filled.

My parents and I were travelling through Manning, so I checked out Penguin's menu online. I called and asked if fries are included with sandwiches and entrees. The woman who answered the phone said yes. When we ordered, there were no fries included. I paid $13.95 for a clubhouse sandwich with no side. There is no "real" meat or cheese in the sandwich- it was 1 slice of processed ham, 1 slice of processed turkey/chicken, 1 slice of processed cheese, 1 tomato slice and 1 leaf of lettuce. Definitely not worth $13.95. My mom's $10.95 BLT wrap was a ton of lettuce, one slice of tomato and one strip of bacon. Also not worth the amount paid. The side of fries was $6. It was about the amount of fries that most restaurants put in a kids meal basket. As a matter of fact, they came in a kids meal basket with the gravy bowl taking up half the space and the fries not even sticking over the top of the basket. The coffee was cooled off enough to be able to drink it like water. No refills offered. When a refill was requested and the waitress was told that we would like HOT coffee because the coffee she served the first time was cold, she took coffee from the same carafe as before and put it in the microwave. At the end of the meal, the visit to the bathroom was not good. It was dirty and smelled like mold. Based on today's experience, I would not recommend this restaurant.

Servers were pleasant. Ordered jalapeño poppers which were good and arrived before our main course. My main course arrived lukewarm with a hot side of pleasant gravy. BBQ Chicken was cold inside and potatoes tasted like they were instant. Server heated up my plate when requested. My companion had the BBQ ribs with rice and shared that they were warm and had good flavour. Server did say that most folks who come in get the burgers and fries so this might be the way to go. One of the stalls in the ladies washroom is out of order and the smell was quite pungent.
