This company was the general contractor for some skateboard parks in Calgary. The quality of work was poor and the parks took way too long to build. Some of the work has deteriorated a lot already. This company should not be building skateboard parks.

Well the job is pretty good and pay is nice as well. Now the quality of job varies from site to site. Most sites are reasonable and the bosses are either fair or really relaxed. But some sites have bosses who start thinking they are owners not employees like the rest of us. Hence they treat the employees as such. These employees brown nose the management and constantly harass the employees. I spent most of my time with such a site where our supervisor/boss was a serious brown noser. So this boss to please his superiors would constantly be trying to make everything we do "more efficient". Now if only me or a particular person was being bothered, we would say that me or the person is to blame but the opinion on our boss was unianomous accross the board which was a harassing brown noser. So one of his "efficiency" tactic was to pretty much force all labor staff to constantly use stairs instead of the elevator even when carries handfuls of heavy tools along with ladder in a 36 storey building. And this was for at times 10-15 storeys up or down. Also at times he would pull us off the elevators of we were riding. Then the worse was that he would only give us one task to do at a tim, would buzz around us all day and have totally unrealistic expectations of how long an activity would take to complete. Say realistically it would take 30min to take down a heavy light from an elevated position using a ladder. This man expected it done in 10min. And if you don't meet these timelines, he would act all pissy and moody. Then during the time he buzzes around you he doesnt really assist he just nags. Now the worst part of this location above was that we had 2 breaks per shift for about 30min each break. Now like i mentioned we were in a high rise building of 36 storey. It was expected that we have a break from 10-1030a. So to actually get a proper break i would take 10min to reach the ground to take my break on time. Then that boss tells me that in 30min i have to get downand get back up to return to work. I was like that is unfair specially since smokers can break anytime and would take a break every hour. And then add insult to injury, this policy only applied to labor crew. So i went out of way to get a proper 30min break. Also the worst was when my boss's boss agreed with my boss in this policy and i straight up told him "sorry, not gonna happen cause i cant teleport from the ground to the floor im working" and that it takes 10min or more after break waiting for elevator to come to ground floor and return to floor to get to back to work. They threatened to write me up over this and i told them go ahead but they never actually did. Another issue was being harassed about using the bathroom or going to get water which IMO is a boddily need/function and can be done when you need it. So the boss wanted both these things needed to be done during breaks. I was like i will go when i need to go. Then we were scheduled to go home everyday at about 430p. Again i mention that i was working in a high rise building But our boss went out of his way to get us to leave a little late and on our dime. I get emergencies but usually most days he would make us just hang out and do nothing. So again i would leave 10-15min early to get home on time. But the most frustrating part of all this was that the rules applied differently to different people which was clearly unacceptable. So all in all, this place and the boss that i worked with had a system of double standards. Plus they have slective methods of how to do something safely. So if you are in a real need for a job before going on vacation or in between jobs, and dont mind lax safety policies, being harassed for little things, and being stepped on, by all means work here. Otherwise, there are better places to work out there.

I am still new in construction and in PCL, heavy work everyday, but I enjoy each day, and I like my crew. I have good experiences so far and my learning curve expending day by day. If you see PCL workers are standing on the road do not criticize them, easy days are no much, PCL employee works hard.

8 PCL workers watching and one woking. At this rate the 17th avenue Rejuvenation will not cost 96 million ut 196 million.
