★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Most folks park their car and the walk or cycle the path north along the canal. But I walked south, planning to stroll among the actual Oxbows and appreciate the wetlands. But I was wrong! The trail does not actually enter the Oxbows and the wetlands at all. I was a victim of deceptive naming. But the stroll along the canal is nice enough, with more vegetation diversity than the adjacent desert lands. Probably the same as the northbound sections of the path, but much quieter since everybody else went the other way.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Nice flat walk. Need to go early on hot days due to the lack of shade. Many species of birds to be found along the trail especially in the spring. Watch out for snakes.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Great little spot to to go for a walk, birdwatch, ride a bike on the gravel road up or down the canal fish, critter spot
Take a lunch , snack what have you, picnic. No tables but you could find a spot for chairs or a blanket. Enjoy the peace.
