About Opportunities for Employment Inc.
The Demand-led Model
OFE is not only in the business of changing lives with meaningful employment, but also growing local companies and strengthening our economy. We have expanded our demand-led programming with what we term as “rapid response” modules in the following four primary sectors: manufacturing and processing, health services support, retail, and customer contact industry.
We use a dual customer approach with a demand driven model, which engages employers in the process of equipping individuals for the labour force. The model is responsive to the unique needs of individuals with varying levels of attachment to the labour force and to the needs of Manitoba employers as they seek new and innovative recruitment strategies, training solutions and human resource management practices to fill vacancies and retain productive employees.
The model is designed to measure gains and identify key milestones along a continuum. Job seekers are able to “test out” a work environment and be exposed to areas of industry and positions they may not be familiar with before they engage in programming designed to prepare them for the technical aspect of the job. The program model provides industry specific essential skills and technical training and allows for flexibility in delivery to foster innovation and system improvement.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ OFE has been a great help for job seekers, especially for newcomers like me. I was lost and nervous when I first started the job-hunting journey. Although I had more than 9 years working experience in my home country, I noticed the working culture would be so much different here. Therefore, my employment consultant suggested me to enrol free courses like Self Marketing Preparation and Canadian Workplace Culture. These courses were practical and handy. The Self Marketing Preparation teach me on resume and cover letter writing, as well as interview. I was able to enhance my resume by accessing Applicant Tracking Systems and made it more appealing to employers afterwards.
I also enjoyed the time in Canadian Workplace Culture. I had a better understanding on Canadian workplace, employer expectation, communication style, skill set and employment standards. To my surprise, I did not expect the benefit, safety or even compensation applied to all workers regardless the status, which might be a myth for foreign workers. The course structured in the way that there is slideshow for information, videos to demonstrate real life example, as well as small group discussion.
Big thank you to all the staffs in OFE, you made me feel welcoming, and I highly appreciated what I learned here.

A special shout-out goes to Alice, who facilitated the Rapid Response Admin Training that helped refresh my CSR and admin skills; and Courtney, who did the mock interview with me. After having been assessed, they tried to include me in trainings that are appropriate to what I want and what I need. Marianna was assigned as my consultant. She helped me fix my resume and recommended me to employers. She also updated me with job offers and job fairs. In a month's time, I was hired by Shared Health through OFE's recommendations basing on my education and experience.
I strongly ? recommend OFE to anybody who is still looking for a job.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ OFE was very supportive in my search to find a job. There are many many people going through there all the time but I still got personal one on one coaching including courses and am now working as a direct support worker. If my assigned worker hadn't assembled my life experience into such a great resume I probably would still be searching.
The reason I didn't give a full 5 stars is because as an organization they suggested positions that do not pay well, or are dangerous. If you aren't standing up for yourself and the work you deserve to do, you may end up working at a slaughterhouse. I'm aware that not everyone has the luxury of time when searching for work.
That said I did not find my workers pushy for me to take just any job.
