Since 1990s Canada’s target for permanent immigration program has been 250,000 newcomer per year. But in 2017, Canada increased this to 300,000 per year which is the highest level of planned admissions in recent Canadian history. It is anticipate this trend will continue so that in 2020, 340,000 immigrants will be admitted to Canada. As immigration levels continue, a new approach to immigration and refugee law is sorely needed.

Omer Khayyam is a barrister and solicitor practicing in Saskatchewan. Omer graduated with a Honours Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University of Saskatchewan going on to complete his LL.B. degree (formally renamed that same year to a J.D. degree) at the University of Saskatchewan. He completed his articles at a Toronto litigation firm then returned to Saskatchewan to practice in criminal law defence, family law and immigration law. Omer Khayyam established Omni Law with a goal to enable immigrants and empower them. Omer Khayyam is an immigration lawyer in Saskatoon licensed by the Law Society of Saskatchewan and the Law Society of Upper Canada (Ontario).
