★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Great hike near the Kananaskis Village, starting from the Evan-Thomas trail from the Evan-Thomas trailhead. Knowing the turnoff from the Evan-Thomas trail is critical, and I would suggest researching the whole route. The ridge provides great views of the whole valley and is a great broad ridge to sit down and have lunch on. It’s important to know the season to go for sure, though, as I went in May a couple years ago and we ended up post-holing in waist to chest-deep snow. We fought for a few kilometres and ended up making it but I would definitely suggest waiting until at least early July. Also, as always, especially with hikes with big open grassy areas, check for ticks at the end of the day.
