Nice quiet Town of Apsley. Great snowmobiling area. Support local businesses.

We have been cottagers in this area for 19 years and having recently made this area our permanent residence,we have always had a positive experience when dealing with the municipal office in Apsley. Small Town does make a difference .

This review is of the township and Apsley as a town and is from the eyes of a younger generation that is local to Apsley. Reasons to stay in Apsley for younger/future generations: Theres absolutely no reason to stay in Apsley for future generations, theres no jobs that have a salary as most pay here is based on the amount of work so it's impossible to budget. The price of housing is outrageous in this area. And unless you were born with a silver spoon in your mouth theres no way you're gonna be able to afford to live here as a young person with the price of housing, insuranc, electricity and utilities.The municipality is stuck too far in the past and not making progress fast enough to catch up with the future generations. Businesses: Theres the bare minimum of businesses here, a couple places to eat (really only one), a couple places for mechanical repair, a general store and a gas station. Theres no where to just go and spend money. This is a trade oriented town. Now it's easier to become part of the royal family than it is starting a business in Apsley. You're better off becoming homeless and begging as then atleast you won't get near the disappointment and probably make more in the end. Starting a business in Apsley is hard because of the amount of money required to start one. Staffing and Counsel: The staffing from what I can tell are either the laziest people I know of or they just flat out don't know how to do their jobs. They have absolutely no communication between departments and will never double check their work and assume it's correct. Theres also some staffing as far as I know that are working in 2 different departments at the same time, which in my opinion isn't a good thing as they can easily get confused or over whelmed and start misplacing important stuff. The counsel doesn't seem to do anything in the best interest of the locals and seem to be hockey and cottager oriented. Now if the staff was trained a bit better or faced more serious consequences than what they already do then their might be some improvement. Also since this is a small town staff has a hard time putting family/friends aside for enforcement of rules. Locals: The locals are very volatile as in higher highs but lower lows. If you haven't been in Apsley for atleast 5 years expect everyone to snuff their nose at you with a few exceptions. People here will either give you the shirt off their back or wish to see you fail at life for entertainment, with quite a few inbetweeners. Building a house in Apsley: Hahahhahahahhahahha. Have you ever tried to build a space ready rocket? Once you have it functional and been on a mission to space and back then you're ready to start to think about building a house in Apsley as it's next to impossible. Other: Theres nothing to do in Apsley on weekends if you aren't a Hockey nut. Apsley has a rather large poverty and drug problem, it's hard to see if you don't know the locals well. The cottagers can be very arrogant, especially towards locals. There is no good hangout spot for teens/young adults. Theres no where to stay for a night. If there was a hotel in Apsley then there would be nothing to do once you did get here unless you enjoy boating, fishing or Hockey.
