NHVN Currency Exchange

Tldr: I converted $2000CAD into $1512 USD here. When I went to the bank to transfer the money, was told $300 were counterfeit. Went back here to get the situation fixed, then was accused of trying to scam and steal from her because there was no way her store gave me fake bills (which they did). Had the cops called on me, they never came. Now I'm filing a police report to get my money back. WARNING: BE EXTREMELY CAUTIOUS WHEN USING THIS PLACE!!!!!! I have been using NHVN for months to convert my money and have never had a problem with them until this week. I use this exchange to convert my CAD into USD to fund my stock broker account (they only accept wire transfers in American) so I can trade the market. This was THE ONLY place I ever converted my money, and this was THE ONLY place that I got my USD from. On Friday November 20th, I went to the exchange to convert $2000 CAD into USD and got back $1512 (a standard exchange rate). When I went to RBC on Saturday to do my wire transfer, to my surprise, three of the $100 bills were counterfeit. The teller said one of the bills might be real because it's an older print and their machines don't recognize older prints, but the other 2 were definitely fraudulent. I was annoyed at that point because I thought I'd be transferring the entire $1512 into my account but could only transfer $1212. I assumed that when I went to NHVN that everything would be fine and they would help fix the problem (I even brought my receipt from when I converted the money, and my wire transfer document from RBC showing I only transferred $1212), but boy was I wrong. When I told the teller that I got the fake bills from her store, she went to get the manager and before she even saw the bills, she was extremely aggressive and extremely hostile, denying that I got those bills from her. She said that none of the bills would pass her machine, except for one because like the teller at the bank also said it was an older print. She accused me of trying to scam her and said I was "being greedy" by trying to take $300 from her. She said people do this all the time and I just wanted her money. Keep in mind that I have been coming to this exchange for months and I have never complained and never said anything like this, but now all of a sudden I'm "trying to scam her". Where's the logic in that? I kept telling her to check the camera because maybe they would show the previous teller handing me the fake bills, she said the cameras can't see the serial numbers so there's no point in checking the cameras. After a few minutes of going back and forth she threatened to call the police and claimed she had a friend that is a cop that could come and deal with me. She kept reiterating that as if it was going to scare me, but knowing that I did nothing wrong I told her to call them and tell them to come, I have nothing to hide. So she called the police department (guess her cop friend was busy) and when they put her on hold she told me that I would have to personally file a police report and that she'd gladly go to court with me. So I told her that I was going file a police report, and I also told her to save the camera footage from Friday and Monday just in case. Originally, I just wanted to either exchange the fake money I got from her store for new $100 bills or get my money back ($300 USD is around $400 CAD and no one wants to lose $400 because of a mistake someone else made). But now I am extremely offended that she called me a scammer, called me greedy, and claimed I was trying to steal money from her. I WILL NEVER GO HERE AGAIN and have already found a cheaper and better alternative to convert and transfer money (transwise website and app if any of y'all are interested). I am filing the police report and will keep everyone posted.

Went today & was helped by Madeline. She was so friendly, professional & gave us the best rate she could on our CAD-EURO. Really recommend this place, even though we had a large sim of money to convert between 2 separate transactions, we were in and out within 10 minutes.

Been coming here the past few years for work so I don't get killed by bank rates.. Usually CAD to USD and their rates are always the best around when comparing. Service is always top notch. Haven't had a bad experience there. Last time was October and felt totally safe with their Covid steps they put in. It's the right spot if you want good rates & peace of mind. Highly recommend!

Update from post below. Company followed up with concerns regarding counterfeit. Very much appreciated. Review adjusted accordingly. Fair exchange rate. I did get a counterfeit bill however for Columbian peso which was super embarrassing when in Columbia. It was a good fake, but I’d expect a good exchange service to catch those too
