About mud Urban Potters
INSTRUCTOR
Chase Key is a functional potter from a small cattle farm in central Alberta. He attended both Red Deer College and the Alberta University of the Arts, graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Art in 2017 with Honours. Chase gathers local clay from his family farm, river beds, and commercial developments throughout Alberta to be used as glaze. These locally gathered materials give his work something truly unique, and he hopes the users can reflect on the deeper connections clay can offer to place.
Chase believes that building strong fundamental skills allows makers to be better equipped to create unique pots that highlight the beauty of functional objects. While thinking of the end users experience potters can make more informed design decisions that allow for a blend of personal aesthetics and perfect functionality.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Had a great time at Mud! We took advantage of their date night offer for couples - you don’t have to be on a date, it’s great if you just want to go with a friend. The facility is beautiful (don’t let the industrial neighbourhood fool you) and the instructors are personable.
I’m very close to a five star for Mud - the instructions were good but would have been more valuable if given while we were throwing. Sometimes they would step in while I was throwing and fix my creation - I don’t mind if my piece turns out a little rough because I know it was mine. Instructions on how to fix it would have been preferred.
After your pieces are done drying, they fire and glaze them for you so your involvement is limited to the one evening of throwing and then picking up the completed pieces. A very enjoyable date night - highly recommended!

Art is something that I find very difficult, but Kellsey was very kind, helpful, and patient. Everyone working there was positive and encouraging. I will take another course in the future and highly recommend you do as well!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This is the second place I have been to for pottery classes and I have to say I’ll never go anywhere else. Jenna’s beginner class was so fluid and easy to follow that I’ve been finally able to throw cylinder’s to make mugs. I can’t wait to keep going with these classes!
