This is a top notch example of Canada's living industrial history. If you are interested in how everyday items were manufactured a century ago, you will find the tour fascinating. The building has some lovely architecture and the displays and interesting and engaging. Our tour guide (get the guided tour if you can) was excellent, and the people in the ceramics workshop were happy to explain what they were doing and how it both related to... And differed from, the historical practices. I had not expected to visit Medalta, and didn't really think I would be so fascinated, but it turned out to be a delightful surprise and a highlight of my time in Medicine Hat!

Quite an interesting museum in the historic old town centre area of Medicine Hat. My mother had pieces that were produced at that factory so it had a personal interest to me. I recognized duplicate pieces in Museum collection. Definitely it is worth the visit and price (Senior for me). The machinery in the back is a little hazardous by today's standards yet it was in use and production until the late 1960's. Definitely worth the visit

This was worth staying overnight for. Informational displays that give visitors an appreciation for how natural resources in this area contributed to entrepreneurial and industrial success for Medicine Hat. Self-guided tour. Also enjoyed seeing displays of regional artists in a gallery designed for this.

We toured Medalta Potteries on a class trip. The tour was fantastic and so informative. Our guide was knowledgable and friendly. I have also attended events here and loved it. This is such a neat piece of history for the city and I highly recommend visiting. Also great place to have family or grad photos taken.

This is a must see when in Medicine Hat, the Medalta centre and the historic Clay District. The complex has massive historical kilns converted to a museum of Canadian utilitarian ceramics. In the middle of last century if you were in a restaurant in almost all cases you were eating and drinking out of ceramics that came from here. Down the road is the Hycroft Pottery buildings, and Plainsman Clays. Medalta has converted the old ceramics manufacturing complex into an historical museum where you can see how the whole processes used to work. In addition there are number of potters in residence using a large new modern studio. So many talented artist come through here from all over Canada. In the gift shop you can buy pottery made by some of these artists, and there are also pieces from the Hycroft Pottery that must be over half a century old. Oddly enough this older pottery is back in fashion, and you can buy a piece of history that is contemporary in style.
