MEC was sold to an America private investment firm. What a way to destroy the culture and reputation. I won’t be shopping there anymore.

Mec you are extremely difficult to deal with online. It's strange that MEC requires such an elaborate password for a $5 membership... oh wait "share" not a membership. The password requirement is as secure as a bank? Must include ALL OF THESE a symbol, a number, an uppercase, and be long enough. Really I have such a password but it's reserved for important things not Birthday and Christmas shopping... I really don't care if someone accesses a MEC membership, just make it so it doesn't store cc info and it's all good. Please make it easier for people to order Christmas gifts for diehard MEC fans... (even if they aren't one themselves). The online ordering... needs to have a cc billing address totally separate from shipping address. Everytime I try to add/update an address it wants to update every address associated with the "share".

I put an online order for an item which according to MEC is available. Two days late I received a β€œsorry” email and they notified me that my order is on backorder now. Good luck with waiting for an indefinite period of time for this order. Month? Year? Who knows. Of course, they are β€œsorry”, but: -three days later this item is still on their website as β€œavailable,” and they keep taking orders -they don’t give me an option to cancel this order online, they are not available on the phone, they don’t reply to my email to cancel this β€œbackorder.” -they converted my order into a backorder without any of my consent. So, are they sorry? No. They lie to you about stuff availability, keep taking orders for non-existing stuff to secure their future sales. This is a fraudulent practice. Avoid any online orders.

So I have probably spent hundreds of dollars at the store and they just don't seem to care about the customers at this point. I wanted to price match something but I was unable to get in touch with someone over the phone since it was a long wait. I emailed them about the product and how I found a cheaper price for it so they can price match it since it was still under 30 days. No one replied to my email so I called them back again. This time I was able to get in touch with someone but they said they cannot price match since the product was no longer available and they said they didn't receive my emails? How is that even possible? They are straight-up lying saying that they didn't receive my emails. I have bought a lot of stuff recently for hiking and such and now I'm just gonna return all my stuff and get it someplace else if this is how they treat their customers. The product which I wanted to match wasn't even that big of a deal just 30 dollar difference. They should learn how to treat the customers better instead of losing local customers over these things.

It's very unfortunate to see the direction this place has taken. I have been a member for many years, purchasing products for camping/climbing/mountaineering/skiing. No longer will/can they order products from companies they carry for (as true outfitters do), they have also lost product specialists. Additionally, my recent experience with customer service has seemed non-sensical, shipping me a product from their Eastern distribution centre, when it existed not 3 hours away and instead of arriving in several days, will be several weeks. This is poor form. I would highly suggest supporting your local Small outfitters, and asking them to price match if need be. These small companies generally embody what MEC once was.

I have personally been a member for over 30 years and prior to that I remember driving to another city with my parents just to go to MEC. It was our family candy store, all the potential adventures in one place! I've basically been a lifelong member. I do my best to shop local and I have active little kids now who are typically adorned in MEC gear on all our wilderness adventures. A little while ago I purchased some road specific cycling shoes. I could have gone to a number of local bike shops but I noticed you had the brand that fit me. So I went to MEC store and bought them. I continued with my commitment to MEC and I purchased them knowing you had my back like I had yours. The boa on the shoes broke this weekend. It's been a few years but I've always been told how amazing your warrant is by your team and how, no matter what, just bring them back. Something about being "Rock Solid". Since the shoes were a little old I wasn't sure. I own many bikes and many different shoes to match. Due to the fact they were lightly used I decided to call the store (C-19) and double check before heading in. When I called in the representative on the phone was pleasant, looked up my sale on my account, then to my surprise said I should bring them in and they would take care of me. So, against my comfort level due to the pandemic I headed into the store to exchange my shoes so I can get back on my bike trainer at home. FYI - This is my first ever warranty claim with MEC. When I got into the store I was told they are "sorta outside the warranty" and that they would do nothing, I asked why and the rep said the manager said "it's a warranty thing". I was shocked and left the store without raising a fuss with my broken shoes in hand. I am very disappointed, my time was wasted and I just thought MEC would like to know you have lost my business. The shoes are in amazing shape except for the manufacturer issue. I wish you would have taken care of me.

Many years ago I bought a membership/share for $5. Not only has the board pulled some seriously shady moves recently to sell-out what was once a beloved institution, but they now will not refund my membership despite properly submitting the proper paperwork provided on their website. There are so many better places to take your business for outdoor gear. MEC will only disappoint you.

Contacted the customer service 7 business days ago, still no reply, followed up, no reply. Very disappointed with MEC's customer service.
