My experience comes as a retail customer and not as a contractor so I cant speak to that side. Firstly I would say that compared to the big box diy stores their price point on most non-sale items is quite high. Big ticket power tools can be up to $200 more. The trade off here is that you will almost always find staff readily available who are quite knowledgeable. They are happy to work with you and help plan your projects. This isnt alway the case at larger retailers. I'm sure they offer contractor rates on their building materials which would bring their prices in line with any larger retailers. My experience has always been great when dealing with McMunn.

The staff here didnt seem to know a lot about the actual products they carry. I was able to find the paint I was looking for because the person in the paint department seemed to know a lot about paint, but most other departments really had no clue about thier products. A manager was called at one point to help me, but seemed irritated that i wanted to see a sample of one product before I ordered it. I wanted to see the texture of some exterior trim boards befor ordering, and the manager just replied "all of that product is in the yard". I was waiting for him to invite me to go look at it, but he didn't. He just took me to the order desk to try and get me to put in an order for a product i had never seen. I then told him I'd want to see it before I ordered it. Seemingly annoyed, he said he'd got get some. He stormed out the back door, and returned rather dramatically dragging a 12 foot section of the trim. It was of course the exact texture I'd described to him that I did not want. He was a bit red in the face when i mentioned it had too much texture and that I'd wanted a very smooth texture. I managed to track down a product in the store on my own that would do the job I needed it to, but then found the same on the home depot website. I decided to give Home Depot my business since the staff ay McMunn & Yates had not made me feel the most welcome.

Fire Felicia. Its clear this person doesn't care about the well being of her staff and only cares about making as much money as possible all while using and abusing their staff until injuries pile up. Even when hurting and injured, they are told to suck it up and just do the job. Just another cog in the machine. This place will turn around a shoot the friendliest smile while eyeing up your wallet all the while treating their staff with utter contempt. I was there picking up some lumber the one day and I waited 10 minutes in their yard before I finally saw somebody. Turns out all their staff was out doing deliveries and left a couple guys in the yard to do everything else. The one yard guy I was chatting with was friendly enough but seems to think they are severely under staffed for all the work they keep piling up, but it seems the company has no interest in finding extra help. Also, apparently they don't get breaks? Isn't that a violation of worker rights? The staff itself was friendly enough to me and seemed knowledgeable enough but I hear whispers of complications from upper management. I want this store to be the best it can possibly be, but the one they call Felicia doesn't seem to have the staffs general interest in mind and the general talk is staff largely feel the same, I won't name names out of fear somebody might lose their job. It is noticeable some days, staff can't keep up, things are disorganized and often straight up messy and they try, I see them trying to put stuff away but you can only get so much done when its only 2 guys trying to do everything. The store will bend over backwards for just about any customer but won't give any leeway with their own staff it seems. There just seems to be very poor communication between store management and company management and the staff is rightfully frustrated when upper management doesn't give two hoots about them and only cares about making money. Ask yourself this. Would you haul X amount of drywall sheets into a basement, every day all day in 30 above heat for $14/H? Anybody looking for work, I'd suggest looking elsewhere. I've know people who work there and their stories aren't always pleasant. You would be better off working at Rona, they don't carry drywall, they just drop it and leave. The problem seems to revolve around one person but because that person who's in position of power, absolutely nothing will come of it and its a shame. I Don't mind giving them my business but I just wish the staff weren't so miserable at their own job.

Would Not Recommend this store!! We drove an hour and a half to get some lumber and thought we would give them a try. By the time we got out to the yard to pick up our lumber it was about 2 minutes to closing time. The top lumber was very cracked so we took a few off the top and set them down to get a couple nicer ones. When the yard guy ask if we where looking for good lumber. And we said we were wanting it to look fairly nice with no cracks all the way through. And he told us we were shopping at the wrong store if we needed wanted good lumber. And when my husband said that he was just trying to get ones that were cracked all the way through,(we only needed 5.) The yard guys said well it's closing time though. I can see it if we where taking forever but we were out of there in a few minutes time.

These guys were great to deal with during my renovations. No matter who you chatted to, they knew their stuff. Any questions I had were answered and ordering was a breeze. Lots of stock in comparison to other building places in Brandon.
