I will never use this vet again. We brought our cat there a couple weeks ago because he was in pain. They told us he had some crystals in his urine gave us a bunch of expensive food and medicine and sent us with a hefty bill then never checked in. 2 days ago he got very sick again. My wife made an urgent call to this vet to let them know what was going on and they said the doc would call back. 8 HOURS LATER my wife called them before they closed and they said well you better get him to the hospital. When we got there they said he was fully obstructed and had severe kidney damage and had to be put down. Even the hospital doctor was appalled no imagines were taken or further care was done. Now our young cat is gone and it could have been prevented by half decent care. Devastated

I’ve always had tremendous respect for veterinarians. Having to diagnosis and treat patients without the patients being able to communicate their symptoms would be very challenging. Unfortunately McKenzie Vet priorities money over the well-being of their patients. My dog has been a patient of theirs for many years and had an annual checkup in April 2021. Just a few months later she was diagnosed with lymphoma at an emergency vet….. She had to receive weekly chemotherapy for months thereafter at Victoria Central Vet Hospital. I called McKenzie Vet to refill her flea medication and they insisted she needed to come for an annual checkup . My dog now has anxiety related to going to the vet and I don’t want to make her suffer by going to an unnecessary appointment. The vet technician I spoke with stated that veterinarians cannot legally refill a prescription if they have not seen the patient in 1 year and unfortunately it had been 13 months. I was not able to find this 1 year restriction on the BC college of veterinarians website and from what I gathered it is up to the discretion of the veterinarian to refill a prescription as long as they have β€œrecent and sufficient knowledge” of their patient. Ie it’s not a 1 year limitation but rather a case by case situation. In my dog’s case, McKenzie Vet would rather force an anxious cancer patient to come to a redundant appointment so they can make a few extra dollars.

My daughter and I chose McKenzie Veterinary Services for our family dog's euthanizing as we had used this clinic over the years for her shots. I was stunned at the treatment we received the dreaded day of the end of her life and am disgusted that humans working in such a sensitive area would be so absolutely insensitive during the termination of our beloved puppy of 14 and a half years. After little Bella received the first shot to calm her, a staff member entered the treatment room and asked for payment. After several attempts by one clerk at getting the machine to take my credit card, then my bank card, then my daughter trying, it was determined that the machine was non-functional. There was little Bell on the table, sedated and in need of comfort, and we were fumbling with payment. Then a second staff member came in with another machine interrupting our final moments with our pet, with yet another machine, which finally worked. It was GROSS. When I went to pick up her ashes I spoke with Suzanne, the new office manager, and she told me that payment is usually procured BEFORE going into the treatment room. Obviously these insensitive staff members FORGOT to do their job and made the most difficult experience of my 63 years of life even more difficult. I have been a registered nurse for 42 years and know that death can be done in beautiful ways. Instead of being able to lovingly be with my dog in her final moments, my daughter and I had to deal with these poorly trained individuals. For $500 + I definitely expected a more heartfelt experience. I would never recommend this clinic, and hope that others never have to experience the lack of humanity that these two individuals exhibited in the final moments of your loved one. As a response to your remarks Suzanne, our conversation behind closed doors was your valiant effort to EXPLAIN your staff's behavior but it does not EXCUSE it. Google reviews are about informing the public so that we can make decisions about which business' we want to support. I stand by mine. The treatment we received has ADDED to our grief, and as I see by other reviews, others have been treated similiarly. I am glad that you are working with your staff so that they can take responsibility for the service they offer, bad or good. Performance reviews are an integral part of my profession, and should be in yours.

Amazing! My dog needed a tooth extraction so we were referred to a dental veterinarian who quoted us $3,200 for the procedure. I asked around for recommendations on a good vet with good pricing and was recommended to Mackenzie Veterinary. He ended up having the same procedure for $1,900, and they took amazing care of our dog. I would 100% recommend them and I will definitely be taking him back.

I was blessed to get a same day appointment for my constipated cat when my regular clinic couldn't get him in. All the staff I met were friendly, compassionate and competent. They took adequate time to address my concerns and go over cost and treatment estimates with me. The facility is clean and bright and doesn't smell like animals or cleaning solutions. I found that the prices charged for his assessment, treatment and medications to be quite reasonable. They took great care of my fuzzy baby and I'm so happy to have him back home and feeling better.

My boyfriend and i adopted a kitten from Pets West, and this was the vet that was assigned to my kitten through the adoption and I honestly couldn’t be happier with them. Little boots got Neutered and they called to check up on him which was fabulous and gave me a very detailed, easy to follow care instruction package. Every time I go there they are so kind and caring and you can really tell every staff member there cares deeply for your animal. I highly recommend them. Thank you Mckenzie Vet for taking such good care of my little guy.

We have been bringing our cats here since we moved to Victoria and this is by far the absolute best vet we have ever found. They are so loving and caring towards our fur babies, and they are so patient with all of my questions. They even did a follow up for no cost after I was worried about her incision after being spayed. Everyone that works there (front desk, techs and vets) all truly seem to care about my animals and that is so comforting. I am super grateful that we found them and would recommend them any day! Thank you McKenzie Vet staff!!
