About Mattson Tree Farm
This family run tree nursery was started in 1999 by Dann and Debra Mattson. Dann is a professional Agrologist and has a MBA from the University of Guelph, and Debra has a Bachelor of Education. They have extensive experience in operating agricultural related businesses, having owned and operated Green Way Farm Supply and Field Tech Agri Services in Olds, Alberta from 1976 to 1998 prior to starting Mattson Tree Farm.
The tree farm is currently run by Brett Mattson who helped his parents with the startup from 1999 – 2004. After high school, Brett went to the University of Alberta and graduated with a BSc. in Mechanical Engineering. In Spring 2014, he left his oil and gas career to focus his efforts on growing his family farm. Since moving home, the farm has doubled the amount of trees it can plant annually
Nursery Description
The nursery currently covers 60 to 70 acres just west of Olds, Alberta and maintains between 20,000 and 25,000 trees with the help of their two seasonal employees. By offering friendly, professional advice and very competitive prices Mattson Tree Farms markets approximately 3,000 trees per year, predominantly into the Calgary, Red Deer and Edmonton markets.
Lining out stock is purchased from reputable growers in Western Canada and North-Western USA and grown out in a dry land nursery using sound cultural practices.
