Lakeshore Tree Farms - Your Source for Prairie Hardy Caliper Trees - Lakeshoretreefarms.com

This page is for our wholesale nursery only. We proudly serve landscape contractors, garden centres, golf courses and municipalities.  We ask that all visitors and customer pickups be by appointment only from 8:00am to 4:30 pm weekdays.  For our retail stores in Saskatoon, Sk. visit www.lakeshoregardencentre.com .

Lakeshore has supplied the wholesale market since the late 1950's. In the thirty years following, we supplied zone 2, prairie hardy fruit trees as well as bare root shrubs and shade trees. We shipped plant material throughout western Canada, into the northern United States and to Alaska.

In the past fifteen years our focus has shifted. We now specialize in zone 2, prairie hardy caliper tree production, and container grown shrubs and shade trees. With 13 acres of container shrubs, 3000 pot-in-pot shade trees, and 200 acres of caliper trees, Lakeshore has become Saskatchewan's largest and most complete supplier to the landscape contractor. We continue to supply this plant material to wholesale markets in western Canada, and the northern United States.

Plant Propagation

Lakeshore has always prided itself on supplying quality plant material, hardy for zone 2. To ensure hardiness, we insist on starting the plants ourselves. We have 5 acres of seedbeds, and annually propagate 150,000 rooted cuttings. Please inquire about our availability lists for seedlings and rooted cuttings.

Our Tree Farm

Lakeshore Tree Farms Ltd has the largest caliper tree farm in Saskatchewan. Our irrigated, 250 acre tree farm is situated in the South Saskatchewan River Valley. The river bottom consists of up to 7 feet of alluvial silt, brought in over hundreds of years of floodwaters, making this area very fertile.

New Plant Introductions

Over the years, we have been careful to watch for plants that have been one cut above the rest. This rich heritage began with our father, George Krahn. Because of our unique climate, plants from our region are extremely hardy and thrive in many other climatic zones. Some of the plant introductions which George has been involved in are: Royalty, Thunderchild and Morning Princess flowering crabs, Thiessen, and Honeywood Saskatoon berries, Prairie Gold and Sunrise apricots, Sutherland and Goldfinch golden elders, Homesteader plum, Green Giant poplar, and Edith Smith apple. You will find these plants grown in nurseries across the United States and in Europe.

Worst customer service I have every experienced! I ordered 200 hundred trees 48"-60", booked a delivery service to pick them up only to be advised my ordered had been cut back to 6" tall seedlings without consultation with me. When I called they said too bad that's all we have and attempted to blamed me. Unacceptable! Do not buy anything from from these thieves.

I visited the physical location briefly. My four stars are mostly due to their online web experience. I also contacted one of their representatives on the phone and at the conclusion of that call I was more educated, better prepared, and happy.

High quality trees and shrubs. Haven't had anything purchased here die. Just have to be sure to provide the appropriate care while they are establishing.

Do not order anything from this nursery online. Back in May I ordered 5 buckthorn seedlings for $41 from this farm through mail order with shipping included to ON. Seedlings arrived dead. I raised the issue with the farm, Sondre Dyck. She insisted that seedlings are dormant and I need to wait after planting, so I did. Despite careful planting and watering and weeding, the plants were dead. Several exchanges with Sondre, replacement plants were sent. They arrived equally dead except one seedling that showed some signs of life. These new seedlings were planted again. Same thing repeated, they did not wake up- none. Sondre asked for photo proof. I sent (attached). After many delays and excuses she wrote that there is no warranty anymore and if I want one more and final replacement, I need to pay $25 for the shipping. So end result is ~15 emails, lots of wasted time and resulting request to throw good money after bad money to probably get the dead seedlings again. I warned Nursery that I have to leave a bad review and gave them last chance today to resolve the issue. The reply from Vic Krahn just came that I "failed to make these plants grow" so Vic declined my request. I wish I could make dead plants grow, may be in my next life...
