Matias on the Rocks Cottage

A great place for families. Very clean cottage, a quiet and private place and lots of activities to do. Greatly enjoyed it!

I rented Carlo's cottage in January 2015 with 11 other friends and family members over the weekend - Friday Saturday and Sunday. Carlo's sent me a long 10 page document of the requirements needed to make sure that we leave the cottage in the same condition that we found it in. On Monday morning we spent 4 hours "vacuuming", "sweeping", and cleaning the entire place to ensure its perfectly clean. We also brought a small speaker which we had by the camp fire playing music. The neighbour (an elder lady in her early 70's) from the house next door, come to us at 3pm in mid day on Saturday and angrily without saying hi or introducing herself, said to turn the music down since they are trying to watch TV in peace! I told her that the music is not loud at all but I turned it down anyways. Finally the cleaning lady come at about 10am on Monday morning to clean the place - checkout was at 11 (which we already completely cleaned for 4 hours and paid $150 cleaning fee which is mandatory in addition to us cleaning everything and vacuuming) there was a little fire going in the fireplace and before I left I asked her if she would like me to leave the fire so she stays worm and she said "If you want to, but I will document it to Carlos". She also had a negative vibe and was very unpleasant. I spoke to Carlos after the fact and he told me that we did not leave the "mugs and glasses" in the same drawers that we found them in. I replied that its impossible for 12 people renting a cottage to remember where every mug and glass was, and that nowhere in the documents that he sent me it said that we had to put all the glasses and mugs in the same drawers that we found them in. He replied that it says to leave the cottage in the same condition we found it in, and therefore he will charge me $250 from my $750 security deposit!!!! I could not believe that someone can be so anal and told him to take the $250 and that i would leave a truthful review about the cottage experience because I was outraged that someone would treat me like that after I spent 4 hours cleaning his cottage to make sure its perfect in addition to paying a $150 cleaning fee! This is by far the worst cottage experience I had, the most anal neighbours and the most anal landlord. I will never come to this place again, and would not recommend it to anyone unless you just want to sit inside the cottage and make absolutely no noise during the day or night. Also make sure you read the 10 page document several times to ensure he does not take your security deposit if you missed one little thing like putting the mugs in the exact same location you found it. OUTRAGEOUS!!!!

We rented Matias on the Rocks, in July of this year(2020). What a beautiful cottage (more than a cottage)! Fully equipped with anything we would need and nicely decorated. We loved the screened In seating area below the large deck for the evenings, as we all know, bugs anywhere in Ontario are a reality, and also we were also able to be outside during a rainstorm. We were able to comfortably sleep our whole family - 4 sons and spouses, and grandchildren. The dock area was large enough for all of us to it and enjoy the view or watch the others as they swam, kayaked, paddlebooked or played on the large floating mat (even the “big kids” had fun on it. We took our own boat for waterskiing and tubing and the boat launch was very handy. It was a wonderful week and we were able to make many wonderful memories as a family. The owner was always very quick to get back to us with any questions we had, and we were provided with a very detailed guidance manual, which covered so many questions we would have had otherwise. Thank you Carlos and Adalina for renting to us. We hope we will be able to go back again.
