Manitoulin Eco Park

4/5 based on 8 reviews

We are a quiet, family-friendly campground which welcomes the differently abled, with plans for sharing demonstrations of food, housing, waste management, and other regenerative and resilient practices. Not only do the owners and many staff members live on site but dogs, cats, chickens, goats, and ponies live on site too; your well-behaved petsare most welcome, and service dogs stay for free.

Our several unpowered bunkies are filled with bunks (not furnishings or decor) with space to sit, cook, and eat on the mini-porch or by the fire circle. Most camp sites are off-grid... meaning no power, no water, no connections. Don't worry, you're not fully disconnected as your phone will receive WiFi and reasonable cell signal near the office. Cell service varies by provider and location on the campground.

We have sites which accommodate trailers, but very few with access to power, and none with direct water or sewage hookups. The new Tipis (now moved to sunny sites better suited to their use) are traditional, and rental comes with training on how to get the comfort and air flow you desire. See the full description of the different types of accommodations and siteshere.

Waterfrom the main well (truly superior water quality) is available from a front gate tap, and a summer kitchen tap near the office. The water is treated by nature, and transported to keep water tanks filled in easier-access locations. Water locations are on the map.

While we do have a few flush toilets by the nature centre, many outhouses and port-a-potties service most sites. A kids playground, a Ninja course, and mini-putt are located by the main office. The hot showers operate by rope-pull, and we’re planning more ecosystem-friendly measures as we grow.

The two summer kitchens are backup facilities for people new to camping, those who forget to bring stoves, to help when there are fire bans, and for travelers who are not equipped with full gear.  In other words, we’ll do our best to support you, but there may be line-ups if you don’t bring your own stove and cookware.

We had a very nice time at the star gazing cabin. The staff was very helpful, even with accommodating our dogs. The night sky is beautiful at the dark sky preserve. A must visit.

Camped there in July 2021. If you are looking for a “rough” camping experience in Manitoulin Island, then you can there. The camp spot in the general camping area is worse than the dark night area. The ground was full of gravel and setting the tent was super challenging! The bathrooms are horrible except for one clean bathroom by the camp main office which I believe is mainly for staff but it was just impossible for ya to use the ones by the camp sites and had to wait until the whole family can go to office washrooms. Make sure to take bug and mosquito sprays. They are awful there! The star events only take place during weekends and Fridays this period of time. Would e-commerce reading their reviews. In the star gazing area no stars are in site. White light was not allowed and the walk there was creepy!

Beautiful private campground under new ownership as of 2021. We stayed at spot 36 which they mentioned was a new site. The view during the day was great over the green space and pond, and at night it is absolutely stunning due to the dark sky preserve. If you are passing through, or planning to stay for a while, this is a great campground with very friendly staff who have forged an oasis on Manitoulin Island.

We spent 2 nights in Camp Cabins and booked for dark sky preserve. Pros- Staff were friendly. 2 stars were given for them Cons- - Paid for two bundles of fire woods which did not work. Ended up leaving them unused. -The cabins were not cleaned and shabby, bugs and spiderweb, spiders everywhere - No professional from astronomy community was there as they advertised, too pricey Advice: Need to be little transparent with the customers and pricing should be checked.

We’re just leaving and we’ve been here for six nights (2 grownups and a 6 year old). As other reviewers have said, the facilities are rustic, and I know this aesthetic is not for everyone. However everything is kept immaculately clean and there is a fun, funky, creative look and vibe to the shared spaces. We typically camp in provincial campgrounds because we like the space, privacy, and nature. Here, you get that experience with additional features like an off grid, low light environment and a communal outdoor kitchen and washing up space. If you’re used to the generic family campground experience with sites packed next to each other, little shade, manicured lawns, and big bright generic bathrooms then this place might not be for you. But if you want a cozy, quiet, artsy, friendly vibe and more nature than you can imagine, this is the place for you. And the stars! You’ve never seen anything like this in your life. Thank you for a wonderful vacation. We’ll be back soon!

Super nice people, making such an effort to building it into a truly unique space. Great trails, lots of options to camp, sleep in a cabin, tipi...and the chickens, goats, puppies and cats were fun. Funky playground, mini golf communal eating option, beautiful art. It is rustic- no bells or whistles- but it was a great break and our family had fun.

Nice park to go for a night-sky viewing. The park has lots of camping spots too. The office staff was very cooperative and helpful.
