About Lumber King
A peek into our past.
It began with a fence built in 1975 for the family dog. Neighbours wanted the same lumber for their own properties and Fred Pysh, sensing an opportunity, said he could sell it to them. He borrowed a truck, sold wood from the driveway and his father-in-law soon began calling Fred ‘The Lumber King’ as a wisecrack. For ten years Fred led a double life as Statistics Professor at the University of Calgary and as entrepreneur. In 1986, Fred forfeited his tenured position for a life in work boots and Lumber King quickly became an integral part of Calgary’s housing and construction industry.
Today, Lumber King is in the hands of Fred’s son, Dan, and is an accredited member of the Better Business Bureau. Dan received his B.A. from the University of Victoria in 2001, planning to work as an economist. But Dan soon sensed that his annual summer job had more to offer in the teachings of economics. Take it from Dan: lumber sales are a harbinger for the nation’s economy.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Amazing service every time I go. I am not much of a handyman and they took the time to help me draw up blueprints for my new fence and created a list of all the pieces I would need. They always have someone in the lumber yard to help you load your wood and pick through to ensure your are getting top quality. Have already recommended to a few other friends.

I went there today and met Dan in person( owner) previously founded by his Father.
His helpfulness / knowledge customer service is unbeatable
Considering the lack of service I get at the big box stores this was refreshing change
Loading up the lumber with the personnel in the lumberyard was pleasure very friendly staff .
All my business will now be with Lumber King

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Excellent quality products and service. I purchased PT lumber for a 2nd storey deck and had it delivered to Cochrane for a very reasonable price. Every board was straight and in excellent condition. The second trip a few months later I picked up 20+ sheets of TG plywood. Again, great guys to work with. Noah the forklift operator was awesome, helping me load and didn't mind that I was fussy selecting the plywood. Highly recommended. I will not be going back to the big box stores.

They have a wide range of quality products. They give excellent service in doing their
best to get materials out to our sites quickly, with often very little notice. I prefer dealing
with Dan rather than the big box stores. Their prices are also very competitive! If you have
not shopped there before, they are worth checking out, especially for contractors.

The service was excellent too. Guys were friendly and helpful. I'll be avoiding the big box stores for my lumber from now on.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ It's not just the price! Seriously, I wasn't expecting such an 'experience' from picking out lumber today.. several sources had recommended I check out Lumber King and I'm so glad I did. They earned my business the old fashion way; as the adage goes: do something so you get really good at it. Danny and his team clearly embrace that. This place is a well-oiled machine - no fluff - and the advice is as quick as the service. Not only was their pricing best (per every other reviewer it seems), the experience was fair and honest with advice at every step. They sealed it when I was offered help unsolicited by a staffer as I was loading my car.. Do yourself the favour and skip the big box stores for your next lumber needs!
