Echo Bay offers something for everyone throughout the year, including fishing, celebrations and the famous Loon Dollar Monument.
About Loon Dollar Monument
The instructor for this course is Brian Ardiel. The full course is two and a half days (20 hours of instruction). The Fire Arm section is done on Friday evening and Saturday all day. You will have one hour of Hunters Education on Saturday too. The Fire Arm testing has a written test and a handling test which will be done on Saturday. The Hunters Education will be done on Sunday with the testing to be included as well.
Course will be held in May or June. It will be first come first serve. When the class is full (10 participants), there will be a waiting list. If there’s enough interest a second class may be organized. On Friday, the class starts at 6 pm – 10:30 pm. The day starts at 8:30 am for both Saturday and Sunday. Tests will be on both of these days respectively.

Payment will be accepted at the predetermined sign up date to be held at 257 Church Street, Echo Bay, from 7 – 8:30 pm. The cost for this course is $260 for the full course in 2019 (includes books for CFSC & HE). CFSC alone is $150 and HE is $150 alone.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Nice spot for a quick photo in Sault St.Marie! Especially if you also went to the nickel in Sudbury! Route 17B takes you along the river and eventually connects back to the Trans Canada Highway. Reno was taking place to redo the roads so parts of it were gravel. Otherwise, good memories!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Very interesting find in Echo Bay, just outside of Sault Ste. Marie. I wish more people knew about it as it is a very cool coin to see. The loonie, along with the existing Toonie in Campbellford and the Nickel in Sudbury, are the largest coin monuments in the world.

Unfortunately the attraction was 20 km out of our way and roped off for some reason?! Public facilities closed too.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Really neat monument to visit! It’s amazing that the Loonie, used ALL over our country in every corner from east to west, was invented in this place. Super cool. Really easy access for anyone driving! Easy parking.
Also, for bonus hiking, there’s a beautiful marsh boardwalk just behind it with a pleasant trail and some nature views!
