★ ★ ★ ★ ★ YES! An L&M in Red Deer! I liked 53rd street music but still made the long trek to Calgary to buy instruments because of L&M's prices and selection. They are currently renovating the place (to be completed in the fall of 2021) but they already have new stuff in there (they are open during renovations). Looking forward to seeing it completed!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I'll be honest, I was a bit skeptical to Long and McQuade opening up in Red Deet as I've always known this store as 51st St. Music (as have many other Red Deerians I'm sure!)
While the atmosphere has certainly changed a bit, you can tell they remodeled and changed around the layout of the store from its previous ownership. Its a lot more open, without many of the random shelves throughout the store that made the old one feel slightly claustrophobic. The staff were certainly very friendly and helpful (Ryan seemed quite nice in particular!) and the selection was really interesting. While they seemed to have cut down a bit in regards to classical instruments, they've really expanded their inventory related to digital music production and string instruments. It did feel like the store was a bit less personal, but that's probably my bias shining through a bit.
Overall, not a bad place to go if you're looking for an instrument! Just like their other locations, its a good place to jam if you want to try something before you take it home, and they offer lessons and I think repairs as well.
