Great getaway from it all. No phone, no TV nothing but piece and quiet. Our only problem was with Mother Nature's choice in weather...rain everyday. Otherwise, place is great, staff is great! Would love to make a return trip soon!

For 20 plus years I have been visiting this Lodge along with its neighboring Lodge Camp Lochalsh. The fishing is wonderful. It is a great place to unwind and be with Nature. The lake is 20 plus miles long and a few miles wide at most. Plenty of secluded bays to fish for Walleye and Pike. There are other species of fish in this water also. I just don't have any experience fishing those. The Wilson family will do what they can to make your trip as enjoyable as possible.

I visited Loch Island with my wife last weekend and we had a great time!! We had the Modified American Plan where there is dinner and another meal, we chose the shore lunch. Our cabin was very clean and had lots dishes and pots for us to make our own breakfast. There was a deck with new patio furniture and a BBQ. We didn't use the BBQ but it looked new too. The lodge building is small but looks nice and had a TV and a pool table. We loved the cedarstrip boat. It was the first time we went in one. We had a trolling motor and a fish finder put on free of charge. It was really great that they gave us unlimited gas since we were out all day in the beautiful weather. The dockhands helped us tie up our boat every time and brought us our bait and cleaned our fish! We caught our limit each day on the Pike and Walleye but released a lot of them since we didn't need to eat them all! When it was rougher out on the lake a dockhand said we should try the Glasgow portage lake. We went down there and did well on Pike (its catch and release only but we definitely could have eaten them at the size they were). There are smallmouth in the portage lake too but we didn't try for them. The trail to get to the boat was abit difficult for my wife because she has a knee problem but we were able to do it as it was not very long and it was cleared out. There are wood walkways all around the island and my wife liked this and said it was easy to walk around. The food was amazing!!Our favorite dinner was Thursday night which was a ham and scalloped potatoes, and I should mention that we also had steaks on Friday. We ate dinner on the deck at the lodge and saw bald Eagles flying over the shore. Shore lunch was the best meal hands down with fresh fish and potatoes fried up everyday outdoors over a fire!! (there were also beans and cookies and one day we had a stir fry). They fileted our fish right in front of us and you can't get fresher than that! The staff were very helpful and polite. They told us the best fishing spots and what lures to use. We are very happy that we came to Loch Island and would like to come back next year if we can!

Loch Island Lodge Not As Advertised The pervasive sense of disrepair and neglect that greeted us from the moment we arrived at Camp Lochalsh on Wabatongushi Lake in northern Ontario, left us scratching our heads as to how any respectable business could in good conscience promote a fishing experience as world class online and in print that is so dramatically disappointing in reality. The physical facility and hospitality we had been lead to expect were all but absent. It took until day seven of our eight day stay for two members of our party to actually meet owner Andy Wilson. You will need a sturdy four wheel drive vehicle to get into Camp Lochalash as the gravel road was pitted with large, deep and plentiful potholes and rocks. One of the staff joked, that the rough ride in was intended to weed out the amateurs. Our cabin was fine with the exception of a deck we had to patch ourselves, after repeated requests of staff, to prevent one of us from falling through, a propane grill that did not work and was never replaced and a shower that initially leaked all over the floor. Low water pressure was the result of plugged up aerators which we were able to clean ourselves. Our kitchen was well stocked with dishes and silverware, but lacked adequate cooking pots and pans. We had to tape up sizable holes in the screen to keep the bugs at bay. One of the primary attractions for us, were the cedar strip fishing boats. We requested trolling motors, which we never received. We then asked for anchors, did not receive those either. The boats functioned fine although physically they had seen better days. Sadly they suffered from the same neglect the rest of the camp suffered from. A simple coat of varnish would have indicated the staff was up to task of maintaining the day-to-day demands of running a resort business. The gas and bait was free, which was nice, but a lot of the bait was undersized or dead and gas was only available at the main camp, Loch Island, about at 15 minute motor from Camp Lochalash. Despite never meeting our hosts, the balance of the staff was cheerful enough if not necessarily knowledgeable about day-to-day operations and guests expectations. It really struck us as more of a summer camp being run side by side with a resort business. We understand spring was late to arrive, according to staff about three weeks, but when you are running a business, requiring deposits, and know you have guest arriving on a specific date, your facility needs to be ready to operate, no excuses. This camp was not. You could see the bones of what used to be, a resort that in its heyday occupied several prime locations on a pristine, productive body of water. The dining room and lodge walls are filled with old mounts and vintage photographs echoing back to a bygone era when guests were appreciated and the camp itself respected the privilege it enjoyed being located in the worlds largest game preserve Chapleau Crown Game Preserve. The fishing while we were there in early June was good. We could have cooked fish every night of our stay. No complaints there. Today only the ghosts of those better days remain haunting the carcasses of rusty refrigerators, water heaters and oil barrels. Parents are advised to think twice before exposing their children to a landscape littered with abandoned appliances including refrigerators. The terrain throughout the camp is uneven eroded by rain and loaded with rocks making it more than challenging for ordinary folks let alone folks with disabilities to get around. This is definitely a buyer beware experience. Despite the pretty color brochure, website filled with pretty photos, select outdated reviews and tempting prices, Loch Island Lodge is not as advertised. Our advice, take a pass on Lock Island and find an honest outfitter who's hand you can shake and product you can promote.

Lake is beautiful, boats are cool, but this place isnt what the web site portrays. It might have been pristine 20 years ago but unfortunately its has not been kept up. My son and I stayed at Camp Lochalsh for 4 nights. The cabin was what you would expect however, they only left us one bath towel each, sign by kitchen sink says water undrinkable unless you boil. So Jamie the onsite manager ( he was great and very helpful) brought us a large water cooler water bottle with a pump which worked fine. The sad thing is there are several cabins and buildings at this location that are either a tear down because they are so far gone or they are just no longer being used and maintained and just sitting there deteriorating more. We went to the Island to check out the main lodge which they really promote as being pristine. (A little better condition than the camp.) I made a comment to the owner that they have a lot of work to do at the Camp and his response was "its just an outpost and we are working on it" well if its just an outpost why is there a large building with a dining room and large kitchen just sitting there unused ? Then is there another building that appears to be a main lodge type of building with books, poker table etc that looks like no one has been in there to clean it up or use it in 20 years. The camp could be really nice if they would spend some time and effort tearing down old places and fixing and cleaning everything up. I would go there again but not at the prices there charging for the condition its in. Especially since you are expecting something much different than whats they are portraying on their website.

Great place to relax and catch fish. Walleye and Northern are the main fish. Food was outstanding! The staff is always waiting to help you. They will have your boat ready every time you head out. If they missed something ask and they will get it for you. I almost gave 4 stars because of one male worker that did not belong at this Lodge. I went with 5 because the rest of the staff made up for him. I was never hungry! Hope I can return soon.

NOT AS ADVERTISED Went in early June 2019. Fishing was good and the boats are cool. Some of the staff were great. Other staff not so much, very lazy and Offputting. One of the guys I was with put his foot through the deck of our cabin. We asked the staff to patch it and that never happened. I had to go dig through the many piles of trash to find a board to patch it myself. When we got there we had to fix the stove because only one burner worked. The drive in was extremely rough. There’s piles of trash galore. Burnt bed frames laying in the woods. Fuel barrels piled up all over. Lots of washouts all over camp. The owner wouldn’t show his face or say hi when you walked by him. The cabin was advertised as having all cooking supplies. There were two pans. We were told we had to get gas at the island, they told us we get gas at camp Lochalsh. I was like the place has been abandoned for 20 years. It’s obvious there is no pride in what they do. Save your money, go somewhere else.

Just got back home to Michigan. 4 night stay on modified american plan at lock island. All around great experience. Given the extreme difficulties in operating a lodge on an island nowhere near proper supplies, these folks do a fantastic job. Food was excellent, especially the shore lunch. Staff was wonderful and the owners accessible and committed to showing us a great time. The price is more than reasonable. Oh, and by the way...the fishing is wonderful. We will back as soon
