Top notch, I did something stupid and we all had a good laugh and they stitched me right up. Couldn’t ask for more friendly staff or quicker response, no matter how dumb I am.

As professional and caring as any hospital in BC. I received top notch treatment and sincere warmth from all staff members.

This is our lovely local hospital. Not usually ever a good reason to visit but over the years have almost always received fair treatment in a reasonable time. Now they have free wi-fi!

The nurses and doctors here really care about you. They are kind and efficient. It’s a shame that the hospital doesn’t have better infrastructure.

It’s Labour Day, Sept. 3, 2018.my wife are here because she injured her back two days ago and the pain is unrelenting. We’ve now been waiting three hours to be seen by a physician. There are four others who have been waiting the same length of time. When I asked a nurse when we might be seen, she said it would be at least another hour. When we mentioned the pain, she just walked away. That’s right, she just walked away without a word further. I understand an island hospital should not be compared to an urban counterpart, and that physicians are hard to come by in the province as a whole, but there is a standard of service for any medical centre that shouldn’t be compromised by, as the nurse did condescend to say: β€œThat’s just the way it is.” So, I have to say, this the worst performance I’ve known for a hospital and I despair for those in greater need than us.

My son went there for stomach pain, which he has had on and off for 4 years. The attending said he should go to Saanich for a CT. The CT was done and they diagnosed appendicitis. In 4 years in South Surrey and Vancouver they never even considered this. As soon as the scan was received by the doctor he called my son, who was in the hospital in Saanich assisting surgery, to make sure he was okay. My son was very impressed with the care he got.

Every summer I enjoy a much needed vacation on Salt Spring Island. On July 26th my daughter rushed me to Lady Minto Hospital as I started to feel unwell while walking at Ruckle Park. I thought it was a pinched nerve in my neck, however the sensation I was experiencing at the back of my throat, jaw, neck, arms, upper back and chest was the same thing I had experienced the night before at the cottage (it lasted 40 minutes the night before and just stopped). This time it just intensified by the minute. I felt like I was on fire. Because of COVID I had to wait for someone to come to the door and ask the appropriate COVID questions...thinking back I wish the person who came to the door had identified I was in extreme distress instead of telling me to have a seat at #2 to register. The person I registered with seemed robotic, no expression. I remember thinking why is this person not telling a Nurse or Dr. I'm in extreme distress and need to be seen ASAP. Sitting there answering questions was excruciating. I could not sit still. It probably felt longer than it was, but now that I reflect back, I do believe many precious moments were being wasted on questions. Once seen moments later and hooked up to the EKG I was advised I was having a heart attack. The staff on shift were amazing, swiftly moving into action and providing me with the needed medical care until Dr. Clare Rustad arrived. THEY/SHE saved my life and got me stabilized enough to be transported by Helijet to Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria where I underwent stent surgery the next day. I will forever be grateful to Dr. Clare Rustad and the Nurses on staff that evening. The care they provided me was outstanding and will never be forgotten. The Paramedics were amazing as well, making the trip by Helijet less stressful for me, as I was terrified at the thought of it. I wish I could remember their names as well and thank them.

I got stitches here awhile ago, and they didn’t take note of how many they put in.. I ended up having to remove 2 myself, long after they were supposed to get removed! I can’t believe they’re so unprofessional that they didn’t even count them before to make sure they’d take them all out! The stitches were in my hairline so they were difficult to see. They’re supposed to be professionals they should have taken note of how many they put in and took out!! I really hope they start taking note of how many stitches they give their patients so they do the job right and remove them all!
