★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The Kiwanis Club of Port Alberni BC is the local chapter of the Kiwanis International. Run by local volunteers. They have been active in the local community for a long time (close to 50 years). Been a cornerstone group of the Port Alberni Salmon Festival (held every Labour Day weekend) since day one. There claim to fame is amazing BBQ Salmon dinners, they also run the beer garden during the weekend. All money raised during the year is put back into the local community with a primary focus on children. They also very early on sponsored the Hilton Center by paying off the mortgage, after which it became the Kiwanis Hilton Center - a one stop shop for all things children.
