Park / Area History

"Kip" became a Regional Park in 1965, however, the lake formerly known as Stoney Lake, was a popular destination since the 1920's, drawing visitors primarily from Tisdale and the surrounding rural areas. In the mid 1940's, interest in developing the lake grew and many volunteers worked hard to clear the land, and level the site for the beach, then hauled tons of sand to form the beach. Tisdale Fish and Game League took over the resort in the late 1940's and changed the name of the resort and lake to Kipabiskau, a Cree word meaning Stoney Lake.

Barrier Free Access

Campsites: Level grass/gravel. Walkways/Trails: Level gravel. This park features a wheelchair accessible store/visitor information, hall and scenic deck.

Playground/Recreation Activities

The playground features swing sets, teeter totters, a double slide, a climbing apparatus, ample room to play as well as a floating slide at the beach.

Boating and Fishing

There is a large floating dock at the boat launch. A filleting house offers an enclosed screen building with running water for cleaning the catch. Perch, northern pike and walleye offer great fishing opportunities. Water sports are very popular here and the Kipabiskau Water Sports Club is the largest waterski club in Saskatchewan. A wakeboard/water ski clinic is hosted by the club annually, generally the first week in July.

Hiking / Nature Trails

A network of nature trails provide approximately 10 kms for hiking through the woods. One trail provides some great views of the lake and park. There is a map at the trailhead showing the location and names of the trails. Trails are mowed.

Camping

61 seasonal sites, 9-15 amp daily sites, 3-20 amp daily sites, 10-30 amp daily sites, 1-50 amp daily sites, and 5 non-serviced hillside daily sites.  All lakefront daily are 20 amp service. Coin operated showers, washrooms and coin operated laundry facilities.
