Kelly's Nutrition Centre

I went into Kelly's recently, and the service was atrocious. The lady at the cashier with short grey hair greeted everyone after I walked in and asked them if they needed any help but neglected to ask me if I need assistance, nor did she give me a warm greeting. The other young girl with long curly hair and tattoos at the juice bar was even more rude, which I didn't think was possible. I asked her a question about the juices, she turned her back on me, as she was preoccupied juicing, then she answered my question, 2 minutes after I asked and did not bother asking me if I was interested in a juice. She didn't suggest an alternative, nor did she bother asking me if I was ready. Although I spent nearly $60.00 in purchases, I walked out extremely disappointed.

To be completely honest; the face that our city NEEDS organic, wholesome products that Kelly's Nutrition sells is the ONLY REASON THIS BUSINESS STILL STANDS. I have been a customer of this store for over 15 years off and on, and I cannot to this day recommend someone shop there; but only to recommend the products on the shelves at Kelly's. If the business put half of the energy into customer relations that they do when choosing products for their shelves, they could have so much more potential! Literally, the products sell themselves in this store, not the employees.

I will never shop at Kelly's nutrition again. They have absolutely the worst customer service. I went to the juice bar, there was 3 people waiting in line with nobody servicing the counter. Finally an older lady showed up, miserable to be working I guess. She didn't acknowledge anybody in line, just started throwing stuff around and taking orders. Worst. Service. Ever. Oh yeah last time I was at the juice bar the worker put a silica gel packet into the smoothie by accident. I came back after choking on it, and they wouldn't even apologize and give me a new shake. Hands down the WORST place to shop in Thunder bay. Outrageously high prices and miserable, horrible customer service. I can't see this business last much longer. Updated: I tried going here a few years later. Wow, it has gotten worse. I'm at the juice bar, the lady working can clearly see me waiting but proceeds to wash dishes for a few minutes before snarling at me "Whaddya want?". Wow, I'll have jack-o-lantern shake please, silica packets on the side. They used to give the extra shake in a little side cup, but not anymore. She dumped the remainder down the sink. Nice. Then I'm at the refrigerator section, with a door open looking for their goats milk ice cream and a worker pushes me out of the way and snarls "I gotta get in here". Ok...thanks. It must be a prerequisite to be grumpy and have poor customer service skills. Once again, never again.

I have never had a bad experience there. The staff are more then helpful. I've been a customer since the 80's. I sent alot of my Reflexology Clients there to get what they needed at the time to improve there health. Please don't ever close.

I discovered Kelly's because I bid on a gift card they donated to a Salvation Army Shelter fundraiser dinner- so their generosity already put them a head in my books- but then they had a great juice bar, an excellent selection of veggie/ vegan food items, including my favourite veg jerky, reasonable pricing (some great sales), a wide selection of supplements and skin/ hygeine items. I was impressed. The staff was really friendly too.

I recently started taking Strauss Heart Drops. I ordered my first bottle from Amazon and it arrived but was quite slow and expensive. I thought I would call around for better pricing. One of the stores I called was Kelly's Nutrition Centre in Thunder Bay. I asked if they carried the drops and was happy to find out they did. The price of the small bottle was really no any cheaper then anywhere else on my list of places to call. The sales lady on the phone then said that they had the large bottles on sale and they were actually cheaper then the small bottles. I was a bit shocked by that and questioned it. She assured me that they were on sale and had several bottles left. I asked her several times to confirm the 1. price 2. the actual product (to make sure they were the Heart drops and not something else produced by Srauss) and the quantity. She confirmed that they were indeed the Heart drops and they were cheaper then the smaller bottles and also that she had 7 bottles left and there would definitely be some available the next day. I was driving in from Marathon so a round trip took me almost 7 hours of driving. Well worth it to pick up 3 or 4 bottles of the large size Heart drops at such a good price. I know I was sounding like a broken record, but I asked her to once again confirm everything and she checked again and confirmed. The next day, I made the 3.5 hour drive from Marathon. When I arrived at the store, I explained that I had called in and was there to pick up 4 bottles of the Strauss Heart drops. The lady behind the counter grabbed me a few of the small bottles and started to ring them up. I said no, I understand that the larger bottles are on sale and I would like to buy those. She replied that those were in a different spot and that she seemed to think that they were not the Heart drops on sale but rather the larger bottles of the Strauss Kidney support drops. I said that there must be some mistake as I had triple confirmed with the lady on the phone yesterday. She said "OK then, lets go take a look." When we got to the table where the product was on, there were several bottles of the Struass Kidney support drops with reduced price tags on them. I said these are not what I came for, could she please find the large bottles that are on sale. She said we have a few bottles of the large Heart drops but they are not on sale and do not usually go on sale. I was very confused and explained the conversation that I had had with the other sales lady the evening before. She said well I can sell you a small bottle and knock 10% off. She said she knew who it was that I had the conversation with and would let her know about the mistake. I explained that by the time this was all over, I had given up a Friday and drove 7 hours round trip, waited in the store for the better part of an hour just ti leave with a small bottle that even with the 10% discount still cost more then what I was told I could get the large bottle for. I actually paid less for the bottle I had purchased from Amazon then what I paid for the discounted bottle. All and all, it cost me a vacation day, 9 hours in total, $75.00 in fuel and I didn't get anything that I couldn't have gotten somewhere else for probably cheaper :( To make it a bit worse, the 1 bottle that I did get has a defect and the threaded dropper in it has stripped and over half the bottle has poured out. (This part isn't rally the stores fault but still frustrating).

This place is a gem! Family owned and operated means you get the service that is non-existent in corporate stores. The juice bar is something we need on every major corner! This is truly a place that values your health and nutrition and one of my personal favorites!

I frequented Kelly's the past 3 days for smoothies. There are many reviews here detailing the poor customer service and dismissive attitudes of the staff. I can only imagine they dealt with the one very thin, short hair lady at the juice counter. Her attitude/energy is not one you'd expect in a holistic atmosphere. She is quite short and cold BUT Kelly herself and the fantastic associate, Nicki were both wonderful! Very pleasant and personable as we got to chatting. Prices are a bit higher than I am used to but I can assume that is because of rising costs and importing from metro cities. All in all, I would visit again when I need organic items/supplements and smoothies on the go.
