Rooms to rent for private functions for everybody. Special help when needed. Always busy. Always welcoming for all. Very inclusive.

D	Don Bartlett on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ At about noon on August 27, 2020 I was approached on Menzies Street by a confused elderly woman who asked me for help. She was in desperate need of a washroom. She informed me she had requested help at the New Horizons Activity Centre and was turned away. I found the woman a washroom to use and guarded her scooter while she used the facilities. I could not believe that New Horizons would not help this woman so I went to New Horizons to inquire if this was true. Indeed it was!! The female supervisor in the front office told me that yes it was true. She said they turned the woman away because of public health regulations. Public health measures notwithstanding, they could have offered assisted if they wanted to. They simply chose not to assist, and conveniently used public health measures as an excuse. I told the supervisor that I thought this was shameful behaviour. They could have found a way to help the woman. The supervisor started hollering at me telling me to "write my MLA" if I didn't like it and then followed me out to Menzies Street yelling at me like a crazy person. This supervisor showed a complete lack of compassion and empathy for an elderly woman. So much for "we're all in this together". New Horizons Activity Centre is funded in part by public money and I would expect them to do better.

She is not easy to deal with because she has a temper and I hate to think of what it is like for the members. I looked up who I could file a complaint to and the executive director has the same last name. I went to Victoria City Hall to complain and there is a Parks and Recreation person that I left a message with, but she has not called me back. This program director raised her voice to me after I drove down for a line dancing lesson. She screamed at me because I was not a member. I see from a previous review that someone else has experienced her anger. Let's get some help for these seniors and get rid of this person.

P	Peter Morris on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I was at the exercise program this morning. I go to the writing group on Wednesday. I first went there about 14 years ago when we first moved to Victoria. It's a Grand place with a variety of programs and activities. The two ladies who run and look after things are a source of energy who never ceace to provide help and guidance . The members are a fine assortment of people with a variety of interests. It's the perfect place for a senior to find companionship and something to do!

This Centre involves its seniors. It offers seniors an opportunity to volunteer and to be a part of the greeting, information sharing and much more. They provide so many ways seniors can participate in healthy and active programs. I personally have met so many happy seniors here and made a lot of good friends.
