I’ve been an athlete for many years; I played softball all throughout high school, which is where I first met Jag. After high school my training and days of playing ball were coming to an end. I started at Uvic and went to the gym on and off; I didn’t really stick to a routine at the time. In the past 6 years I have signed up to be a part of 5 different gyms; all very typical gyms. There were lots of people, lots of equipment, women’s sections, competitive pricing, group fitness classes and one-on-one personal trainers etc., etc. But why didn’t I stay with any of those gyms?? I never felt comfortable – I hated it being over crowded, I hated never being able to use the equipment I wanted, and the personal trainers were not as qualified as they appeared to be. And even with just that small list, is how Jag and Islandathletics is able to set themselves apart from all the other β€œfad” gyms in Victoria. Jag is personable, knowledge and reliable – everything you need in a personal trainer. I came to Islandathletics not only because I like the one-on-one experience, but because I was picky on whom I wanted as a coach – when you’re power lifting hundreds of ponds (or almost in my case!), I wanted someone who I could trust to teach me right, not just tell me to β€œdo as many reps as you can.” Jag makes your sessions fun; I remember when I was training on my own or with a group class, I would dread going, and could think of any excuse not to go. Working with Jag I’m excited to train!! I’m more energized and focused than I have ever been. He teaches you how to push yourself, and encourages you to want to improve the next time. I think I can speak for a lot of women who use the gym, or see personal trainers; he never makes you feel inadequate for the work you are doing in his gym. This was something so so important to me. I mentioned that knowledge is key when working with a personal trainer. Well one of the things I respect most about Jag is he does not just tell you what to do; he breaks down each movement and explains how and why an exercise/movement is important, or why it’s being done in a certain order. I have been working with Jag for almost 6 months and I learn something new each session! If you are looking to become healthy, stay consistent, or just throw around some weights (and do it correctly), then I don’t ever hesitate to tell anyone to contact Jag at Islandathletics. You will not be disappointed by his services, humour or all around fun atmosphere that he provides.

I came to Jag last year thinking I knew fitness. I showed him my squats and he instantly but politely corrected me. No other trainer took the time to correct me, I was astonished. My second day with Jag he had me discover new muscles I never knew I had, and from then on the results grew. He has introduced me to the world of crossfit and I would never go to any other trainer. His rates are awesome, but most importantly he is the most knowledgeable trainer I've met, with a clear knowledge, passion and aptitude for fitness. I look forward to my workouts and he designs them to perfection.

Since starting with Jag at Island Athletics I have learned a lot. Jag has helped me progress through my barriers and mobility issues, while improving my strength. It's this knowledge of both hardcore strength training/crossfit combined with his knowledge of physio therapy and mobilization that make him a total body coach.

If you're a serious athlete you need to be training here. I came to Jag with a goal in mind. I am currently training for Team Canada's Rugby Olympic team. Not only have I made amazing strength gains, my mobility, and flexibility has increased incredibly. He has a physical therapist's mindset as he is embarking on a career in physiotherapy. I would highly recommend Island Athletics. Not to mention it is the most affordable personal training in BC.

As a college baseball player I was looking for training that would push me mentally and also target the areas of strength I need for pitching. In the four months I have been working out at Island Athletics, I have put on 30 pounds of muscle and have also become much healthier. I am no longer always hurting and sore. I have already recommended a couple of people who love it and are now apart of the Island Athletics team. If you are looking to get better, Island Athletics is definitely the place to be!

If you're a serious athlete you need to be training here. My two kids came to Jag with a goal in mind. Not only have they made amazing strength gains, their mobility, and flexibility have increased incredibly. Both have become mentally and personally stronger, with out Jag that would have never happened. He has a physical therapist's mindset which means not only does he train them, he also take extra time before or after a workout to help them with injuries/soreness that has happened during the week playing sports. I would highly recommend Island Athletics. Not to mention it is the most affordable personal training in BC. With such a personable caring guy.

Training with Jag and Island Athletics has completely changed my perspective about my body. Every workout is so different and constantly requires your body to adapt. Jag has a lot of knowledge and experience when it comes to mobilizing the body and tailors workouts to best meet my body's needs. I love training with him and look forward to my sessions. I would highly recommend Jag and Island Athletics!

Island Athletics is the best one on one fitness experiences I have recieved in a coaching area. As a previous national and collegiate level athlete, it is hard to find a facility that encompasses all the training tools that one needs without the excessive machines and wasted space that so many gyms end up having. Jag is highly motivated as a trainer to see his clients succeed. It is also rare to find a trainer who has such a vast level of education and athletic experience. I would recommend to anyone in a heartbeat!
