About International Peace Garden

THE INTERNATIONAL PEACE GARDEN

The International Peace Garden was founded in 1932 on the premise of peace, cooperation and friendship. We are a year-round destination that remains dedicated to our founding principles while serving as a resource for education, conservation, and entertainment for local, regional, national and international visitors.

The International Peace Garden is a non-profit botanical garden dedicated to the mission of celebrating peace and fostering a more peaceful world. The Peace Garden operates on a combination of public and private funding. Public funding is provided by both the state of North Dakota and the Manitoba provincial government.

Both the Canadian and United States federal governments have provided funds throughout history, but not on a yearly basis. In addition to a full-time administration and horticulture staff, the Peace Garden is governed by a volunteer board of directors.

Beautiful little garden area with lots to see and do. If I lived in the area I would visit more often as there are tons of areas for picnics and just having a good time in the beautiful outdoors. The grounds keepers were nice and the chapel peaceful. There was hardly anybody here. The one downside is you have to go through the border police to get out of the garden.

It had been close to 30 years since I had been. Not sure if right now is the off season or what but didn't have a lot of flowers. I know it's early in the season. But still found it strange that the flower beds by the entrance were over grown with weeds. Also front water feature wasn't on. But still had a very enjoyable time . Loved the September 11th memorial that is there now and the cactus green house. Also make sure to bring photo IDs and birth certificates. Everyone says you don't need them I suggest to bring them so you can get back into the Country.

I thought the $20 admission was worth it because the grounds are exceedingly massive with tons more to do than just the garden. Great place to hike, picnic, stroll, or look at exhibits. The surrounding Turtle Mountain is surprisingly beautiful. And there is fun in the novelty of crossing the border 100 to 200 times during a visit. Well worth the long journey.

I loved going to this place! The gardens were beautiful, the staff was lovely, and the rest of the visitors seemed really nice! There’s some areas that are more crowded than other but all together it has a great atmosphere. Really love the contrast of the USA gardens and the Canadian gardens as well. The only reason I didn’t give this place a star was because the butterfly conservatory wasn’t open when I was visiting and I love going to those. One of my favourite parts though was the cactus garden, never realized how many different types of cactuses there are, and how beautiful or fuzzy they can be! It also gave some really cool gardening ideas that I’ll have to try out some day for myself!

This is a beautiful park with plenty of picnic and camping options. We are here in the early season so not much is blooming but the lake is still open for kayaking, the trails are well maintained, the gift shop staff is amazingly friendly, and the cactus garden is otherworldly. I am so glad we made the drive.

This is a beautiful place to cross the border. The gardening is nothing less of astounding. The many flowers and trees provide so many different colours and scents. The masterful gardening and landscape planning make this a place you really have to see in person to fully appreciate. It is a great place to stretch your legs on a road trip and a worthy day trip on its own if you don’t live too far away. Additionally, the border officers are much more amicable than many.

Very underrated! This park is fantastic for both long term camping and daytrippers alike. The camp sites are pull through and choices are water and electricity or no service. Fairly clean and well kept. The area for camping equipment is a cement pad and level. Beautiful views of pristine flora. Definitely worth the trip to check it out.

This is one of my favorite places I can visit in ND. We have camped at their campground multiple times over the last few years. The campground is very quiet, sites are spread out, the camping area is in a nice aspen/oak treed area, and there are bathrooms with sinks and showers. The formal gardens are beautiful at many times of the year. We even went the last weekend in September this year- there were still some beautiful flowers blooming and the fall foliage was perfect. They have an awesome cacti collection and a cafeteria with good food options. One of my favorite things to do while visiting is drive the auto-loop at dusk (great birding opportunities!). It is so beautiful! We have also done almost all of the hiking trails there. Some trails are more maintained than others. Depending on the time of year, there may be ticks, mosquitoes, and poison ivy so just come prepared if camping/hiking. I would highly recommend people visit the gardens, spend a weekend camping, and do some hiking here!
