I registered for a course with Humber College relying mostly on the fact that a college that has been around for decades must be a reputable higher learning institution. However I found out that there are various aspects of the the way Humber college programs work that are malfunctioning, have glitches, are outdated or are run by staff who cares very little about their own students. Students who sign up for online courses are at the mercy of the information supplied on the college website. This is feasible if the website is working properly and if the information is accurate and up to date. Unfortunately this was not the case when I took the course and it made my four months of self study with the college a very frustrating experience, not to mention a waste of precious time I don't have. These are just a few of the problems I personally encountered. The registrar office mispelled my name, making it impossible to provide log in details that would allow me to register. I had to contact the IT department and send various emails to anyone who could help me at the college. The IT dept never replied. The information about the course text books was not accurate and there was a glitch with the bookstore website. I had to call the Humber book store numerous times before they finally realized there was a glitch with their website that prevented me from ordering the text book for my course. The institution asks students to 2 purchase books (for my specific course) that total over $CAD200, a huge amount for a student's meager budget, only to find out (after purchasing the books) from the instructor that the workbook is optional and we don't really need it. This was not mentioned in the course outline at the beginning of the course. The course outline, what they call "critical path" was outdated and inaccurate and it was not updated until about one month after the course began. Many students complained or asked why they could not get updated information, but no answer was provided by the instructor or the course director. When I ran into problems and had some very simple questions about the course content the instructor told me online students are not entitled to receive course help from instructors as they are expected to find the solutions on their own by reading the course textbooks. This instructor had a bizarre way of replying to my emails each time I had questions related to the course. He is very evasive and seems to be totally disconnected from his students. When I brought this to the attention of the course director, he (the course director) became defensive and was unwilling to acknowledge that perhaps there are some issues Humber college needs to work on. All he had was take note of the issues I and other students were having with the instructor and college website, and genuinely assess them. Instead of viewing this as an opportunity to fix issues and improve student experience, he threw a policy book at me, more than once, and only provided answers to one or two of the issues I addressed. He took a very defensive stance and on a couple of occasions he intimated that he disapproved what I was saying. The website issues continued when my instructor contacted me because a test was not received. Despite the fact that I submitted the test before the deadline, it was once again, his word against mine and while he did give me an opportunity to make up for it, the request to submit a 5 page assignment on the same day he emailed me was simply not workable. It was not reasonable also because I am a full time working student and I was at work at the time. All of this affords students little, if any opportunity to speak up if there are problems or issues. This attitude is anachronistic and passe' and detrimental to students.

Its alright for a bus terminal. I wish the heat in the bus shelters actually operated for those cold winter mornings or nights waiting for the bus for extended periods of time
