Definitely recommend! Amazing campground! Well worth the 4 hour drive from southwestern Ontario! Check in was a breeze, the owners were amazing and very attentive to the needs of all the campers. The campsites were amazingly clean and well taken care of! Our sites, sites 301, 303, and 304 were wonderful, very private, and secluded and nestled under shade for basically the whole day! Not much sunlight gets to site 301, which keeps it very comfortable all day, especially on the hot afternoons, and very private for the bonfires at night. Unfortunately, there wasn’t much of a beach due to high water levels, but nothing can be done about that. The water is so clear and blue! It’s so beautiful to cruise the shoreline with a boat and see all the different houses and cliffs from the water. We will definitely be back! Only recommendations would be a little more privacy in the showers, and a bit more of a nicer boat launch (currently only sand and rocks)

Hope Bay Campground - Don't Even Think About Becoming A Seasonal ... You know there's a problem with a campground when you sell your seasonal trailer and one of your fellow seasonals says, "Congratulations on your freedom!" I've spent my entire life at Hope Bay, first as a cottager, then a transient camper and finally a "seasonal" at Hope Bay Campground. Hope Bay is a spectacularly beautiful place with very expensive real estate and so a well-run campground would be a blessing. It was - when we purchased our park trailer 6 years ago. The former owners were reasonable, not money-grubbing, respectful and hard-working. Our lot was always attended to (grass cut etc.) long before we arrived on Friday. The firewood was always dry and burnable and seasonals could buy it in bulk (not $10/bag). The rules about guests were flexible and logical. If you needed propane, someone was always there to deliver it. And if you were paying for a premium lot you actually got a premium lot. The "garbage/recycle" area was cleaned and maintained regularly. And the owners and their staff were cordial. The new owners (Julie and Ed) have made it very clear (to at least 3 people with whom I have spoken) that they would much rather have transients and cabin renters than seasonals because they "make so much more money." -They now rent sites in the "seasonal" area to transients. One of the reasons you become a seasonal is to get to know and trust your neighbours. When new people come and go all summer long, you immediately lose that confidence. -Our "premium" lot (backing onto forest) was waterlogged for most of the season, rendering the fire-pit useless. Over 3 years the owners did absolutely nothing to remedy this problem (heavy rain actually makes the entire campground a mud-pit) and yet still charged that premium. -This year they began construction on an "activity area" behind the premium lots. So much for premium privacy -The garbage area has been a disaster every since they took over. Quite frankly I'm surprised the Health Department didn't shut them down. Also surprised a family of bears hasn't moved it. -Most Fridays at 5 pm our grass was hurriedly (and loudly) being cut. Not exactly the vibe we're looking for to begin our weekend. -There are times when NO ONE in authority is on site. I was once told via text to "Go to Lion's Head" to get propane when I ran out. -The rules are different for everyone. Our neighbours (both sides) were allowed to install sheds and stone walkways in their back yards. We were not allowed to install a removable stone patio. -The rules regarding guests and guest charges have changed yearly since this most recent ownership. And by changed I mean "upped". At first I thought they were quite reasonable. Not any more. Now NO ONE enters this campground without paying, even if they're just stopping by for a beer. -The final straw is this: when you sell a park trailer you must do it through the campground and pay 6% commission. They do nothing to market (save a brief blurb on their website) but yes, they do the showings and they arrange the deal. When we sold, the money was deposited into my account on closing day. However ... the buyers' bank in Toronto put an 8-day hold on the funds. Which means the buyers were enjoying our trailer for 8 days while we were not enjoying their money. If the campground owners want to be in charge they should also be If you’re looking for a short stay, my advice would be sure - pitch your tent or bring your trailer for a week and enjoy beautiful Hope Bay. But if you are looking for a more permanent set-up, find something somewhere else. At least until the ownership changes.

We had the pleasure of staying at Hope Bay for 7 days at the end of June. Driving in you are approached by the stunning Bay. The campground was simple and well kept. I loved the mature trees, spacious sites and friendly atmosphere around the camp. If you are looking for clean, quiet and stress free camping this is the place. They make sure issues and noise levels are respected. The firewood is nice and dry and was delivered! Wonderful service. We were looking for a peaceful camp and definitely found it. It was nice walking to the store for a chat with Julie and having one of her fresh waffle cones. Thank you for a wonderful relaxing week.

This was our first visit at this campground. Our first encounter was not very good because as we got to our site there was a truck parked in it. My son stayed there and I had to drive to the office to advise that someone was parked at our reserved site. Well the girl in office that day had no idea. She said her boss was just coming into the office and maybe she knows who's truck it was. Well, the woman came in and I let her know that our site is occupied with a white truck. She was a bit perplexed then I showed her a picture of the truck and her eyes lit up with a smile. It was hers! We both chuckled. Lol Anyways she went quickly over to the site and removed her truck appologizing. It was all good! The lady was very nice and accommodating. The bathrooms were clean and so were the showers. The only complaint I really have is that the washrooms are TOO dark at night. There is no lighting in the whole area. Since there wasn't any lighting at night, I fell on a planter in the middle of the night.I currently have bruises on my legs from the fall. The campground is close to a small quiet beach that is beautiful to enjoy in the day or night. I have to say it's a quiet campground. Everyone goes to bed very early there. We would leave the campground to do other activities early in the day, like Tobormory or Flower Pot Island or Greg's Caves then come back to camp late for supper. We would be cooking at 9pm and it was dead quiet. So, it is definitely not a younger crowd. It is a very nice campground! The regulars that stay there all season are super friendly and helpful.

Just returned home from a wonderful week at Hope Bay. Our first time there, and we loved it! Beautiful park with breathtaking views! The owners (Julie and Ed) were so welcoming and helpful to my family. The playground was under construction so Ed was very helpful in suggesting nearby attractions to take our kids to. Julie was just as helpful - going out of her way to try and assist us when power had been knocked out due to storms. The seasonals we met were absolutely lovely and made us feel very welcome. Thank you for a great week. We will definitely be back!

My friend and I were through way backpacking from Wiarton to Lions Head on the Bruce Trail. We stopped in at Julie and Ed’s lovely campground in Hope Bay pre- season for an overnight tent stay on May 12, 2022. Julie and Ed are phenomenal gracious hosts whom take exceptional care not only of their quests, also detailed care to the campground environment. It is obvious in the four years since their purchase they have devoted monies, time and effort to provide ongoing improvements for their guests. It was an absolute privilege to have met this lovely couple and have stayed at their oasis on the beach!!! Thanks again Julie and Ed! Sincerely, Darlene Ormsby
