Home Instead - Calgary

For the last two years, Home Instead caregivers have provided my relative with assistance remaining independent (e.g., house cleaning, grocery shopping, drives to medical appointments) and with companionship and emotional support. In addition, management staff have been very responsive dealing with family members and has gone above and beyond in checking in on my relative, and once even visiting them in hospital. My relative's quality of life is immeasurably improved with the support of Home Instead!

I highly recommend Home Instead, Calgary. The service my sister has been receiving is ’the best thing’ that has happened to my sister’s quality of life. My sister will be 75 in December. At 52 she had a major stroke which resulted in speech aphasia ( she can understand everything but has very limited ability to get words out to respond). She also lost total functionality in her right arm/hand and walks with a brace on her right leg. My sister’s husband passed away a few years ago and my sister moved into a retirement residence which provides her with her lunch and dinner as well as programming. Despite her limitations, my sister has remained incredibly independent but some activities have become increasingly difficult. My niece explored some options and found Home Instead. We both spoke with Susan Szabo and realized right away what a diifference Home Instead could make. Susan was very attentive, meeting with my sister to understand her needs and then because of my sister’s aphasia, finding the right caregiver to help which she did! Since Pat’s arrival, my sister has been so happy. She and Pat work on my sister’s appointments, making sure they are scheduled when Pat is there. They go shopping and they also practise using a device called TouChat which is an Alberta Health initiative which could eventually help my sister better have conversations on her own. As I live in Ottawa and I FaceTime with my sister, I also join in when Pat is with my sister and we practise with the device together. Pat is wonderful with technology and has helped alot in this regard. Pat is also very patient with my sister and is an excellent teacher. After each visit, Pat provides wonderful notes for the Family to see on the Home Instead portal which keeps us up to date on my sister’s care. I apologize for being SO long winded but all to say, I really can’t say enough about Home Instead and the wonderful care they are providing to my sister. Thank you Pat, Susan and all of the staff at Home Instead! You are providing such a wonderful service and making a real difference for my sister and our family.

With concern about our mom and her declining health, we contacted Home Instead and within days we had care givers ready to help. From that time amd for 19 months we had the most exceptional care for mom. We began with a few hours a week to 24 hours a day. The care was always consistent and exceptional. The supervising nurses were organized and aware and f mom’s condition at all times and would consult with us on a regular basis as they saw mom’s health change. The office was always sensitive to our needs and would pair our mom with the best caregivers for her. The caregivers were all angels and did absolutely everything for mom. When we started it was November of 2019 and within three months Covid 19 was upon us. Home Instead and the caregivers were exceptional in pivoting and responding to new challenges every day throughout a trying and stressful time for all. They did absolutely everything they could to make mom comfortable and engaged. From reading to her and playing games and crosswords to helping her with meals, cleaning and social activities they improved mom’s quality of life ten fold and gave peace of mind to us in the process. I cannot say enough about the organization and the caregivers. They were at once the consummate professionals and yet the most caring of people toward my mom. I will always cherish what they did to help our mom and give her the very best of care in her final years. Thank you, all. Tom Hughes

We have had Home Instead coming in daily to help my parents for four months now. They have been wonderful with their care and their communication. Has definitely brought balance back into our lives and comfort in knowing our parents are getting their needs met by a compassionate group.

I recently returned to Home Instead as a senior CAREgiver at the end of September after working for this wonderful organization for over a year in 2017. I had to leave due to my own mum being diagnosed with a life threatening illness and had to become her caregiver until her passing in September 2020. I had to put my own mental & emotional health first as it takes a lot to care for an ill family member BUT I always knew I'd return to Home Instead when the time was right as providing compassionate care to seniors is my passion! When I contacted the GM, Stephen he immediately responded and replied with, "we are always looking for great caregivers like yourself" - that was just what I was hoping to hear! Thanks Stephen and all the wonderful and caring staff who have accommodated my return and I LOVE the wonderful seniors who are "my people" and the relationships I'm continuing to nurture and treasure every day!

I have worked at Home Instead SC since 2019 as a Caregiver. I can’t say enough good things about the team of people I work with and for. I have such a heart for people and my position allows me to give the most and best of myself. The flexibility in my schedule maintains my personal and family life to create a fantastic work/life balance that is so lacking at other companies. It’s a joy for me to go to work and I am excited to chat with the families in my care. It’s a plus knowing there’s a whole team of people working at the office and in the care teams and that if I need anything I just have to phone.

I've been working with Home Instead for about two months now and I love it! The team is amazing at working with your availability and they take your interests into consideration when assigning you to clients and they are available 24/7 should you need some help while with a client. When I am with my clients, because we have similar interests it doesn't feel like I am at work, I don't think it gets any better than that!

My father has dementia and has reached a point in his life where he needs help with the daily tasks of every day living. We reached out to a few services available in the area and Home Instead was by far the most accommodating. They adapted to our specific needs and designed a plan to help dad. Carter was especially impressive. I can tell he has lots of experience dealing with dementia, and knew exactly the right way to present things to my dad in a way that he would be calm and receptive to. The service officially starts on Monday, and I'm confident that my dad will be properly assisted while I'm busy at work. Thanks guys.
