Because we're continually learning the good, bad and the ugly from each other; continuously improving in an industry that needs just that. Why hire an HIABC member? Not just for the reasons above, but because HIABC doesn't budge on their higher-than-industry standards, including more training hours, better candidate preparation, better continuing education including in-depth case studies. They mandate annual continuing education, code of ethics, scope of inspection, career entry requirements and guide active inspectors through out the province. HIABC has been pioneering the inspection industry since the beginning.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Consumers beware ; you will be told that HIABC is an objective party who always acts in the best interests of both the consumer and the home inspector. The sad reality is they are the furthest thing from consumer protection.
While HIABCs existence may be argued as "good", I highly suggest all consumers do their research and view them as an insurance company. Just because this organization may pay out a settlement does not mean they work for both parties. There will also never be any admission of wrongdoing at any point in the process. They are a board of former home inspectors, defending current home inspectors. Skim their findings with a fine-tooth comb as you may discover they neglected to read half your supporting documentation.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I have used 3 home inspectors for 3 different houses. One totally missed a leaking shower stall that had been leaking so bad the gyproc in the ceiling below was black with mold. The second didn’t know that fireplaces could be wired but not set up with a fan, totally missed a wet stain on the dining room ceiling. The third thought he was doing an English class , big words like egress, instead of grading structure on fitness kept saying ideally, recommendation is, not sure what it is, but I f it’s mold has to be treated. Missed serious flaws but hilited what was ideal, These are a waste of money
