Start off by saying that this is a nice place for retirement for those not needing extra care. But for those with dementia issues requiring memory care services, you need to really understand what the place truly can provide. I unfortunately did not know how to ask the right questions. We were simply happy to get my mom care we thought she was going to get. We were ready to sell her house to pay for the expense. That did not pan out that way. The reason simply is while they say they can handle the extra care required, the moment you take your loved one there and they can no longer handle the care requirements that are typical in dementia, they can force them out. Never felt so much pressure to find my mom a nursing home. We were lucky enough to get her on a crisis list and somehow the government came through within a month. I felt like I needed to plead to let her stay while we found her a new home. Management options were to tell me to hire personal care (extra cost). They said they would cover an extra staff member at their cost as if they were doing me a favour. They advised me to get one to one hired help while she was basically awake. The cost of that would have doubled the expense of the memory care plan of the home itself. My moms disease did make her aggressive at times, especially with the new surroundings (she was there only two months). No doctor in the facility to oversee the patients. The only group that seemed to know how to handle this situation was the outstanding nurse Jackie and her team. Otherwise, we were being told that police had to be called as protocol because of my mom’s behaviour all the while we had Alzheimer’s Society shaking there heads at this action. I don’t pretend to know how to handle dementia issues as I am not an expert. But Looking back, this management team from the director of nursing did not either. In summary, the place for folks without memory issues are fine as far as I know. Food seemed fine and entertainment was great for other residents. The place was just opened so maybe not fully or properly staffed with a whole team that truly knows memory care. They need all shifts with a bunch of nurse Jackie’s. Please know your loved one’s condition. Talk to Alzheimer’s society social worker first. And money is not necessarily the answer for great care. Make sure you really understand what your loved one’s needs are and know what the homes limits are in care they can truly provide. My mom was only made to feel like a criminal with the police visit. Even police must have questioned having their time being wasted on being called on elderly woman with dementia. Please ensure you have a plan B should you choose this type of care. You know, the care received at the home she is at is so much better. The pros the have on staff are excellent for her. No police issues. Just great medical attention. Good luck.

We found out about Holland Gardens earlier this year from a neighbour. We went for a visit to check out this new facility which only opened mid last year. We were extremely impressed at the quality of the building and the staff within. We checked my aunt into the memory care section on February 25th, thank goodness before the arrival of Covid19. The care that my aunt has been receiving is well beyond our expectations. The meals and cleanliness are exceptional with no complaints. Our nightly calls to Holland gardens are always well received and they look forward to sharing with us what transpired that particular day. We have always been informed by phone or email if there was any adverse condition that happened. Due to Covid19, visitations have been restricted, but thankfully, there has not been one outbreak at Holland Gardens, which speaks volumes about the staff and their continuous care. When we do visit, extreme caution and proper protocols are always adhered to. Forms must be filled out but that is a small price to pay for the safety and well being of everyone. We highly recommend Holland Gardens to any person who is looking to have their loved one become a resident there. It becomes very evident that they not only care for the resident but also to the family members as well. This has taken a very large load off of our minds and helps to set us at ease. The front office always makes sure that if we have any questions or concerns to reach out to them for answers. They have always been very prompt in their replies to us. Holland Gardens continually exceeds our expectations of professional and compassionate care given by all of the terrific staff members. They have set a very high benchmark for this type of care facility that other retirement homes should follow. Respectfully submitted, Jim and Lori Nopper

My dad moved in here in 2019 and has enjoyed it very much. He likes the balcony, closeness to amenities such as banks, restaurants and shopping as well as the common areas in Holland Gardens. The staff are fantastic. During Covid-19 they were very attentive to the residents and even though they were in lock-down for part of it, they kept tabs on everyone and made sure they were safe. No outbreaks here. Additionally, I appreciate the continued communication with the families during the coronavirus. Thanks especially to Shelley and Melissa.

My 95 year old father moved in 1 year ago, into the independent living section. The staff, location and services at Holland Gardens are first rate. We have found them to be caring, helpful, without attitude, and very open. Our experience has been everything that was promised. It really is worth every penny to have my dad comfortable, safe, without worries. As well, they have treated the Covid situation quickly, professionally, and with the needs of residents foremost. Our highest recommendation.

Our mother is 90 years old and the Family was looking for a location that would be suitable for all of her needs. Holland Gardens Retirement Residence has a β€œHotel Feel”, with all the amenities that anyone could ever need, but also with a β€œCommunity Feel” from the moment you walk through the doors. During her first 5 months, she had met so many new friends that sometimes it was hard to reach her as she was always taking part in the many activities that this place has to offer. In the last 4 Months (COVID) our Mom & Family have also been extremely reliant on all of the staff @ Holland Gardens to look after the Health and Well-being of our loved one. Every request made to Melissa & Shelley was always met with the level of Care & Respect that anyone could ever ask for. This type of service has further reinforced our decision with choosing Holland Gardens Retirement Residence.

My mother recently moved into Holland Gardens on their Memory Care floor. The staff have been very accommodating, kind and helpful with the transition from her home to their retirement residence. Although I am unable to see my mom due to the 14 day quarantine for newly admitted clients I feel she is safe and well cared for. The staff genuinely have the clients best interest as a priority. I have been in regular contact with the home and the staff have been helpful in providing updates and ensuring my mother is comfortable.

I can't say enough great things about Holland Gardens. Our Mom was one of the original residents when they opened last year. The building itself is amazing as are the staff. They have all been very supportive on a day to day basis along with when issues have arisen that needed nursing support. The accommodations, food and activities are top notch. The management team has been available at any time when we have needed extra support and assistance. This has been a great move for our Mom and she is in a place of support and care. Highly recommend Holland Gardens.

My grandmother lives here and I have to say this is a beautiful retirement home, very clean and staff is very friendly and nice from what she says. But the food I have to give 1 star. From what my grandma says it’s awful and just getting worse. Good nutrition is important, no matter what your age. And I understand it comes down to money but seriously, is it really that expensive to put together a decent meal. She told me the other day she had a cheese sandwich on bread. No meat and the salad is awful. How can a salad be bad?! I am sympathetic towards the staff and cooks I’m sure they have to work on a budget to fill the mouths of every elderly person. I just feel bad for my grandmother I started bringing her my own food. For the money that she pays to live there, she should be having a decent meal.
