About Hillhurst Sunnyside Farmers’ Market

The HSCA Farmers' Market is recognized as an Alberta-Approved Farmers' Market, through the Ministry of Alberta Agriculture and Forestry. All Alberta Approved Farmers' Markets must meet minimum guidelines established by the Ministry. Alberta Approved Farmers` Markets may be identified by the use of the Sunnygirl logo. Each market incorporates those minimum requirements into their own rules and regulations. By participating in this provincial program, consumers can be sure they are purchasing the highest quality goods from local sources, where the practices of the market and the vendors meet high expectations and constantly strive to meet or exceed industry standards:

  • Markets must maintain a minimum vendor split of 80/20 where 80% of the vendors sell Alberta products which they, a family member, a staff member, or a member of a producer owned cooperative of their staff have made, baked, or grown. The remaining 20% of the products can be made up of out of province, resale or commercial products.

  • Must maintain sponsorship from a not-for-profit community group, local Chamber of Commerce, municipality or agricultural society or forming their own not-for profit society under the Societies Act

This means consumers have the confidence of knowing the majority of the goods purchased will help support the local economy, and that the market acts as a driver for community development in your neighbourhood.

Always a pleasant experience at HSCA's Farmers Market! This morning there was a small orchestra playing for the children in the Hearth. Lots of room in the Gym to check out the vendors.

Absolutely one of the best places to find homemade and local foods. They've got everything from East African cuisine to organic produce. The vendors are just as lovely as the food, which really makes all the difference.

I went to this place for the first time and was absolutely blown away by the beauty and variety of this market. I actually went on an assignment where I had to explore the entire place and interview a few of the farmers, and it was an amazing experience.

Everyone seems very friendly, and prices reasonable for the most part. Mostly collectables for sale. A few vendors with tools. Personally, I was hoping for more sporting goods or clothing. Solid 4/5 stars.

Well organized, nice variety, well spaced. I think there needs to be a couple of arrows on the floor as some people missed the one way sign at the entrance.

We had a lovely time, picked up some much needed seedlings, including unique heritage variety tomatoes! I enjoyed the different offerings from the vendors, and am actually enjoying some of Broken Spirits' spirits as J write this review
