This place has weird classrooms. The whiteboards are a bit too sweet. The KFC on the roof is kind of full of drunk of drunk people, but the narwhals always try to beat you up with their horns

I found that an award-winning project at the CYSF 2019 by a student from Hillhurst school actually copied almost word-by-word (including all results and figures) from a 2016 Google Science Fair project (Zheng Xin Yong: Saving our Breath: Detecting Lung Cancer Early). When I expressed my concerns to Mr. Buckley, the president of CYSF, he took it lightly by saying that the contestant could be just "repeating" Zheng Xin Yong's experiment, even though I showed him that his "so-called" results (numbers and plots) were exactly the same as the numbers and plots in the article published by Zheng Xin Yong on the Journal of Thoracic Disease in 2016 (Issue 8(10): 2772). Anyone with a bit of scientific background should understand that a repetition of experiment won't result in exactly the same data due to various sources of variations. I don't know if the teachers from this school who were in charge of the students' science fair projects had carefully checked the originality of this student's work. If I could discover such obvious plagiarism by a simple web search, the teachers from this school should as well. Science fair should promote original ideas and creativity, while emphasizing on scientific integrity at minimum. It shouldn't be a warm bed for scientific misconduct. Meanwhile, the schools should take actions in educating these young children, who cannot always distinguish right from wrong, about what behaviors are considered plagiarism and are not accepted. Mr. Buckley may not care, but I do. And I hope Hillhurst school also does.

Hi, Chinook Chen, I am deeply concerned about what you have said about my project and I would like to clarify some things. I had only used a graph of gas chromatography from a research study i found in order to explain my project more clearly to the judges. I had even told the judges that I did not have the resources to conduct that certain experiment and that it was not conducted by me. My project was about using an alkane hydrocarbon on a circuit board and increasing the conductivity on the circuit board to receive the data. I had gathered all the data of all my results for the response of a hydrocarbon to alkanes, in my log book (which I showed to the judges). In addition I only defined certain concepts the same way as another research study. In my opinion I think my sensor was one of the most original ideas in the science fair compared to most of what I had seen. Hopefully this clears up the confusion.

Hi, I'm Kate and I go to this school in grade four five and six. I had to move schools because my last school didn't have the GATE program for me, and I was so sad I had to move schools. If you're moving to this school and you are nervous about it too, you honestly have nothing to worry about! I made some great friends SO quickly, and they are so awesome. Everybody was super nice and I felt super welcome. The teachers are so awesome! My home room teacher this year was Ms. Reinbolt, and she is the best teacher I've ever had! The school only picks the best of them :). Our music teacher this year, Ms. Klassen, and she is awesome. Our French teacher Madame Yee is so amazing, we get to do so many fun projects and presentations! I can't forget to mention the principal and vice principal. The schools current principal is Ms. Rhandowa and she is super friendly. Our vice principal is Mr. Topp. He is very funny and he does a great job in making us laugh and also learning our names. They allow us to do so many cool projects and field trips! By far, I think my favourite projects in the year are passion projects. Passion projects- The school gives you a slip of paper with so many different options on what you want to do, and you choose your top three. They have everything! Things like drama, spots, sewing, cooking, art, 3D printing, and so much more. My top three were Photography, Drama, and Art. I got to learn about photography every Friday for a month and a half after that! The school also lets you do clubs. Most of the clubs are made up by kids! Currently, every lunch hour has about two clubs going on, and every kind of club from gaga ball to basketball, and every other thing from special events club to art club. I think you will find something to your interests. Just to put it out there, if you are coming to the school for grade four, for the GATE program, you won't be the only one who is feeling nervous :). If you are in grade four, things will be hard at the start, but if you try really hard and stay on task, you will be just fine! You might get a lot of homework, so make sure you get enough done. What I'm saying is, you don't need to worry. Everybody is super nice and the school is awesome, so you'll fit right in! Bye for now, Kate. ?

Hi! I'm Patrick and I have been going to this school for Grades 4, 5, and 6 in the GATE Program. I am currently in Grade 6 at the start of the year during the time this was written (which, in case you are too dense to figure out from wherever it say like, 8 months ago or something, is on October 12, 2018.). I think this school is very good. The teachers are nice, the peeps of the school are noice and kewl, and the chairs are nice. My current homeroom teachers, Mr. Law and Mrs. Klassen, are SUPER nice. our principal and VP are also nice. we have many clubs and events at this school. For example, we have many, MANY clubs like Dodgeball, Gaga ball, volleyball, writing, choir, and so much more to come! We also have this thing called * drumroll* "Passion Projects" ( ƅ°ਉ°)Ζ… οΌˆοΌžΟ‰οΌœγ€‚οΌ‰ γƒΎ (οΌ οΌΎβ–½οΌΎοΌ οΌ‰γƒŽ. It's basically where you get a sheet of paper with all the "Passions" you can choose from, and you would put your top 3 choices and hope, HOPE you get your first choice. If you don't well, all of them are fun so it doesn't really matter honestly. We have a East and West field, each with their own playground and fields. we also have a mural of our school on the East or West side. ( can't really remember but it is on one of the side walls so you can't miss it!). If you are coming to this school for Grade 4 for the GATE program, and you're nervous, you're not alone. Many people (including me) are nervous during the 1st year of GATE. But that's completely normal. You may get a lot of homework at first but thats OK. you'll feel so much better in Grade 5. The computers are old Macbook Pro's and Macbook Airs. The pro's are a little slow and so are the desktops. If you get the Penthouse. which is the 3rd floor of our school from the main floor, You will have to walk up A LOT of stairs. But you can adjust pretty quickly. The Gym is also a little small, but the playground is awesome. Overall, If you are new and feel nervous, don't worry at all! Everyone will warmly welcome you and you will quickly be able to make new friends! ????

HI i'm Isaiah and I have been going to this school for four years now and I think that this school is fine. It is nice to be able to have different programs in the school such as GATE. It's over a century old and it's definitely not the best. CWA (Clear Water Academy) is much, much better as it has more programs and it supports my need much better. Also the computers suck. The desks are really salty. And the pirate bird is evil. P.S. Jimmie is a legend...
