It used to be a place I really like, every time I went, the food was so nice and fresh. But today I ordered from ubereats all the way to markham! But food is very disappointing, I can tell that all fish and chips were all fried multiple times, especially chips are super tough to eat, and look very NOT fresh, they should have been thrown into garbage! I know because of covid, the restaurant must be drastically affected but you should not treat customers like garbage bin!

I Ordered halibut and chips for $29. The fries were rock hard, cold and could barely cut through the batter on the fish. I'm pretty disappointed as it used to be amazing years ago. I guess it's under new ownership now.

Fish was ok. Fries on the other hand seem old like they had been sitting for days, also had a strong vinegar taste but we didn't use vinegar at all. So ya a little weird. Gravy also taste like it's from a can not homemade forsure.

A low key place but man, they know how to make a mean crispy fish! Adorable staff, really sincerely sweet and offering great advice. It was SoOo hard to choose but finally I got one piece of haddock with crispy bits. Yum! The haddock I had was so delicious I almost forgot to take a picture first. Ok, I did. Definitely worth popping off the highway for!!!

Food was excellent - proper British fish and chips and your choice of dessert from a platter of options. Had to knock off some stars though because the service was pretty bad though. The waitress treated me like I reminded her of her ex husband - for this reason I probably won't be coming back.

visited on Friday March 23, 2018 Due to it being the season of Lent, my wife and I decided once again on a Friday to go for fish and chips. We've known about Highland Fish & Chips for a while, I've visited for take-out 2 times before even before they started accepting Interac. My previous 2 visits were strictly cash-only!! Had to plan ahead before coming here, since I usually don't carry that much cash on hand. At least as of our visit yesterday, we were happy to learn they finally now accept Debit payments. At the time of our visited the dining room was really full. Luckily we were able to snag a table for 2. Service was quite good for the time of it being really busy. We ordered the Fisherman's Platter (3 shrimps, 3 scallops and 3-4 pce of fish), Β½ order of onion rings and a Caesar salad. We had requested the fries and fish to be extra crispy, turns out everything but the fries arrived extra crispy, including the onion rings. Now, all the food was okay, I'd say around 3 outta 5 stars. The reason for the reduction of 2 stars was, at least for our palette, the batter being too oily. In the event that the fried goodies were also salty, I would have deducted another star. Normally I don't have to use malt vinegar or the lemon (which was the squeeze bottle lemon extract), but this time I had no choice, I had a difficult time eating the fried fish portions without it. My wife and I shared the Fisherman's Platter..else I would not have been able to finish it. My wife had commented also that the batter on the shrimp and scallop was oily enough to leave a film behind on her lips. I felt the oil from the batter leave residue on my tongue and the roof of my mouth. Also, for portioning, it seemed a bit on the small side (fisherman's platter) for the amount of $21, not enough fries in my opinion, the scallops and shrimps were decently sized, just felt not enough for price paid, Β½ order of onion rings was a lot, enough for my wife and I to share, we had also shared the Caesar salad. Wife felt that the Caesar salad portion size was a bit on the small size for the price paid. No real complaints on the onion rings (really good when asked for extra crispy). As for a future visit, I did over hear from another table that Highland Fish and Chips does offer a β€œlight” batter option, so my wife and I will return to try out their β€œlight batter” option. If this fails our hopes, likely we shall not be making a return visit. Our current go to spot for Fish and Chips for the last 3 previous Friday's of this 2018 Lent season has been Painted Post Fish and Chips, batter on fish is much lighter and no oily side effect after the meal.

Ordered 2 haddock & chips and one halibut & chips. As we were eating my friend mentioned the halibut tasted weird. Upon smelling it I don't how it made it to the deep fryer without being noticed. It was gone and by gone I mean it was disgustingly bad. Of course that turn the other two off of consuming any more of our meal as you could smell it through the house. I wrapped it up and took it back and yes I did receive ALL the money back but not without a fight. YES, the other two orders were fine but the smell and the chance of biting into a possibly bad section of fish was enough to turn us off Also while the lady was taking my info she rudely carried on a 5 minute conversation with a customer who was leaving the restaurant while making me wait. We have been patronizing this restaurant for quite a while but I will not be going back. The customer service or lack thereof was the final straw.

So I went back & The lady there was VERY RUDE told us that β€œWe need to be educated when ordering we should’ve asked for lightly battered Fish next time” ARE YOU KIDDING ME !?!? Wouldn’t have made a difference THE FISH WAS SOO THIN What a Joke .. who ever you have working there tonight is the One That needs to be EDUCATED ON HOW TO SPEAK WITH CUSTOMERS…. Waste of Money. Terrible Establishment. Plus there was other people there complaining too
