3 day hike. Went in late April- no mosquitoes. Bring a map and GPS, as the trail is not maintained.

The Mount Ararat Lookout can be visited on a day hike through an access point via the Red Deer Trail on Bay of Islands Road. It is recommended to have an early start as the trail is quite rough and not well-marked in certain spots.

Awesome trail. I love the solitude, pristine wilderness, challenge of the terrain and the navigation. I just completed this trail this week October 2018 solo. It's a tough trail but a really enjoyable one. I parked at Willisville road and got a shuttle with AAIO shuttle service to Fort La Cloche. A GPS with a track on it is a must IMO - at worst it will save you many hours and frustration looking for the trail, at best it will save you from getting totally lost. I did it in the classic 4 day rout. The days are kind of short but that's OK when the light is starting to fade in autumn. Can be done in 3 or possibly even 2 days if fit and there's long days. It's a shame much of the information on this trail is nonexistant and I couldn't find any paper maps or scans at all. I only used my GPS. I will post some online with the hopes that others can use it and hike this trail.

Hard to find details about this trail, but it is absolutely a hidden gem! Gorgeous terrain and beautiful views. The first few kilometers are well marked, but it can be hard to find the trail at times after that. We got weathered out after two days (30mm of rain and thunderstorms) but apparently that's unusual, so we only saw the first quarter of the trail, but Mount Ararat is worth it! Highly recommended!

It is rugged; in some sections not well blazed. Fantastic hike, though, with great views both inland and out to the Lake Huron North Channel. Bring bug spray if hiking during the bug season! We parked at Fort La Cloche. No posted parking rules, but the vehicles were fine for a few days.

I didn’t see heaven or it’s gates, but I sure as hell saw some blisters and mosquito bites galore. Woohoo! Awesome view of the toxic smelter and land ravaged by mining and reminisce of Hiroshima. Not sure what heaven has to do with this trail. I’d assume heaven is a golden brick road or a lane way or expressway even. But a trail is for the bush. Haha
