The energy on earth is a direct result of the sun. Geothermal harvests the earth from the sun to make it productive for mankind. The earth acts as a large blast to heat, and cool your building. The earth has seasonal changes which of course affect the weather; however below the ground there is very little temperature change through the year. The sun warms the ground in the summer and snow cools it in the winter but there is little change in the grounds temperature a few feet below the ground.
Using geothermal is having a fuel well in your own back yard. During the winter a heat pump takes the heat out of your ground and puts the heat in your building. In the summer that same heat pump takes the heat out of your building and puts it back in the ground. This is accomplished through pipes buried in the ground

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We purchased BL 28-40 Portage and Main boiler two years ago and it is great.I like the part about putting wood in twice a day (morning and night ) even on cold days. The house stays at a consistent temperature and no carrying wood inside the house . I would recommend Portage and Main outdoor furnace for anybody considering a outdoor stove .

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Our combination wood/oil that was located in our basement was still functioning but I wanted to replace it before it started to give us problems. I spoke with Brian about my options and after our first conversation I knew that whatever I bought it would be from Brian. His knowledge of his product was obvious, but what I really liked was his concern for helping me make the right choice for my needs. I purchased the Polar G3 and set it up in a lean-to attached to my horse barn. The boiler is 292 feet from my house so Brian recommended that I spend the extra money and purchased the best insulated piping. I was nervous about gasification systems and had heard horror stories about other brand boilers that neighbors or friends had purchased. However, NY State law mandates new outdoor boilers must be gasification systems. After my first month of using the Polar I was surprisingly pleased with it's ease of operation and also that I seemed to be going through less wood than I had previously used in my indoor forced air furnace. At the end of the heating season I had only used @ 60% of the wood that I had used the year prior. Yesterday morning was -30 f and this morning was -28. I filled the box at 6pm last evening and at 8am this morning and still was holding 165 degree water temperature. I cannot say enough about this boiler and I have numerous friends who will be purchasing new Polar units in the near future. Brian is my go to guy for any questions that have arisen and I can't recommend Polar and Heat Smart Plus highly enough. Buying from someone else will never be an option for me.

Had a lot of questions during install that Brian, Josh and others at the company were super helpful with. Very knowledgeable, and always took the time to answer my questions. Super impressed with the Portage and Main team, and also impressed with the high quality boiler unit I hav from them. It’s everything I wanted for efficient heating, plus more!! Can’t wait to add the shop to it soon!!

They always have all the supplies needed in stock. The entire staff has always been really friendly and helpful anytime we've had a question.
My next purchase will for sure be the Saber BBQ. Our son recently purchased one and loves it!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I bought a Portage and Main Shaker Grate out door furnace (BL 28-40) six years ago and love it. I've only burned wood in it because I've no coal close by. I talked to Brian in Canada the other day about the availability of the pump and the blower, he said they are readily available. I told him that I really like the ash pan, its so convenient to dump the ashes. So far I've had no problems with the stove.

I went in a few weeks ago and Josh gave us the full tour of the grilling options. He was most knowledgeable, personable, and obviously enjoys his job. I highly recommend visiting this store and if you are looking for a good BBQ, go with a Saber! And ask for Josh!
