Havelberg Kennels

As a guest at the Jungle Cat World attraction, I was absolutely stunned to witness the man photographed in connection with Havelberg Kennels WHIPPING a beautiful, gentle medium-sized dog who was not misbehaving in the driveway to the parking lot, and yanking on his lead (I was standing far away, but did see a glint on the metal collar - was it a choke chain around the dog's neck too?!). I thought that he must certainly have been an ill tempered guest at the B&B who needed to learn how to train his dog. When he turned around and I saw the back of his sweatshirt, I was astonished to see that he worked there! He is meant to be looking after your family members, rewarding your dogs with treats for good behaviour and training bad habits out with positive reinforcement and withholding of praise, not using the leather lead to whip the dog's back. I was standing 40 feet away, and stopped walking towards him (leaving the Jungle Cat zoo) to watch the dog's behaviours. He was being gentle - no pulling, no biting. Just standing next to him. Not even looking around, and even still he was hit. I held my hands up in front of me, waist height and palms up to give the international "what the hell are you doing?!" sign to the man, at which point he began rubbing the dog's ears and back. He KNEW he was doing wrong, but didn't care until he knew he had a witness. Please consider this information before entrusting your animals' care with Havelberg Kennels. I'm shocked that an animal rehabilitation and education centre would tolerate such behaviour. The zoo itself and my interactions with the ladies who worked there were absolutely wonderful, however!!

Great experience with boarding our dog here. We came to visit the area from out of town and our dog, a Golden Retriever, was unfortunately not able to stay with us for 5 days. We researched a few kennels in the area and contacted a couple references and decided it looked like a safe choice for our fur-kid. The interactions with staff were very prompt and professional. It was evident that they are very knowledgeable about dogs, their care needs and behaviour. Our furry boy was taken excellent care of. I would not hesitate to use them again if we return to the area.

We LOVE HAVELBERG! Our 13 year old (!!!) Bouvier des Flandres Wolfie often spends his vacations here and the Havelberg staff is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. Last time we were on vacation our dear furry family member had some issues and the staff have kept us updated. I will spare you the details but they called us several times and took extremely good care of Wolfie. Thank you HAVELBERG! You are true friends and we are forever grateful for your professionalism, great hearts and all the efforts you are making to keep our dogs happy and healthy! Wolfie is wagging his tail in agreement :-).
