I have been learning Salsa, Bachata and Reggaton at Havana Social Dance Studio for about a year and a half now. When I first started, I barely knew how to do a basic salsa step. After only 4 months of practice, I already began to perform on stage with the performance group.

And just like a relaxing holiday, the lessons zip by and make you want to come back again and more often. The dancing itself is great exercise. After my first two months at the studio, my back got stronger, my posture improved, and it actually helped my golf swing by about 80 yards. Marcos the instructor is super patient, and breaks down the dance patterns really well, and won't proceed further until you've got it down and are comfortable enough for something more challenging. Even though the lessons are in English, you'll still manage to learn some words in Spanish! If you are missing the warm Caribbean weather, the studio is a great way to escape Calgary's cold bleak winters, and immerse yourself in this beautiful Latin culture.

It doesn’t matter how old you are, or how experienced of a dancer you are, people of all ages and levels come together at the studio and everyone fits in and feels accepted in this amazingly supportive and encouraging environment. Marcos Ravelo is an exceptional dance teacher and coach. I have done private lessons, group classes, and team classes with Marcos. He makes you feel supported and confident, and he really cares about how you feel while you are dancing. I could not believe how much I learned in such a short period of time doing private lessons with Marcos. Marcos knows how to challenge and turn you into the dancer you aspire to become, whether you are more advanced or just a beginner taking a class for the first time. It all stems from the fact that Marcos really cares about his students and their success. The best part about the studio are the people and warm and inviting culture. I would recommend this studio to anyone.

Marcos will meet you at your level but will push you to do more than you thought you could and you always leave with a smile. I started with Marcos’ performance team with only one month experience dancing salsa and everyone was extremely welcoming and helpful. It has been a whirlwind of fun and learning over the past few months and I’m proud to be a part of the Havana family now.

He gave me lots of strategies to practice on my own between classes plus hosts events in community to practice with others in a comfortable setting (excellant food and service at Mazaj). I have taken lessons before but never have I improved this much in such a short time. I just can't say enough good things. I'm very particular but I will only take lessons with him from now on!

I've been to several different dance schools and Havana Cuban Dance is certainly my favourite. The cherry on top is the variety of styles that Marcos dances. You could learn the classic LA/NY Salsa patterns, or try the traditional Cuban Casino/Son, as I do. Whichever you choose, you won't be dissapointed!

The teachers are patient, kind and a ton of fun all while bringing knowledge of body movement, beat/musicality and culture to the classes. She loved it so much she is asking to now go twice a week! Marcos’ energy really engages you in his classes and encourages a low pressure and comfortable environment. He teaches all levels and breaks things down to help you understand, no one gets left behind. You learn so much in a short period of time and he believes in all his students to improve. We always have so much fun in and out of the studio. He puts on events to allow us to practise and to socialize with other students. I’m so glad I found the studio.

All ages, styles and levels are welcomed. You immediately feel part of the group with great energy, love and support of all instructors. They are all very attentive. If you are lagging behind, they will always take time to guide you individually even if it’s a group class. You will learn impressive routines and polish your style. Very open and warm atmosphere. Professional and challenging but fun at the same time. I recommend this studio 100%
