The Hammerstone quarry covers an area of about 3,600 acres approximately 60 km north of Fort McMurray in the heart of the Athabasca oil sands. Hammerstone's assets include over 750 million tonnes of directly accessible limestone aggregate reserves and other local alluvial sand and gravel resources. The limestone quarry area is unique in that the outcrops are at or near surface across the quarry area and is not buried beneath the overlying oil sands as it is elsewhere in the region.
The quarry will provide a significant, secure, year-round and local source of aggregate materials that will help enhance the sustainability and environmental performance of the oil sands industry.
Hammerstone Infrastructure Materials Ltd also holds leases and permits for limestone and other minerals covering approximately 750,000 additional acres in the Athabasca region of Alberta.
