This is a really special place. I've learned so much here. I've gone both as a student and then as an intern for 5 years, and every time I have had a blast.

This is a far place to go for this kind of very small, rustic, not safe or healthy living arrangement that is provided for students and no refund is given when you get there and realize the place is simply not professional and should not bare the title of "School". There are by far many more choices for film students to try in Canada.

This place I found to be really great. The mentors are very knowledgeable and kind to the students as well as professional. The food is also very well done. It is a great place to get started in the business and they do everything they are able to get your foot in the door and support you the entire way.

Spent far too many summers there and still wish I could go back and re live it now. I have since taken what I've learnt and applied it to grow a photography business. If it wasn't for this place I wouldn't have realized my passion. Thank you so much and I highly recommend GIFTS for people who want an experience to remember!

I attended GIFTS in the summer of 2014 as a first step into my filmmaking career. My experience with the staff, volunteers, and mentors was excellent. As a complete newcomer to filmmaking, GIFTS was a positive and creative learning environment to make my first short-film. The program is hands on and fosters both creative and technical development. Galiano Island is an inspiring destination and I would recommend the experience to any aspiring filmmaker.

I am sorry to be posting a negative review but I have had a really poor experience with GIFTS. I registered and paid $600 for my son to attend the camp this summer (I had purchased a $300 gift certificate at a silent auction which offset the other part of the fee.) We were looking forward to it. We changed the date of camp from July to August with the full support of Evan Allen, the Co-Director. We took a day off from work to travel to Galiano and it turned out the camp had been cancelled due to low enrolment; in error we had not been notified. When we eventually were able to make contact with Evan he was very apologetic. I had to raise the issue of a refund. I said it was fine that I be repaid in instalments if that was easier. Since that time, my emails, texts and voice messages have gone unanswered. Needless to say, I have not been refunded any portion of the $600. Pretty frustrating.

I have been to gifts several times now and enjoyed all my time there. I have met many good friends and learned a lot from the mentors. Whether it's swimming in the gorgeous ocean or editing your film at the last minute gifts is always a lot of fun.
