Grindstone Park

Grindstone Park is a cottage community nestled in the beautiful wilderness located on the mainland peninsula along the west shore of Lake Winnipeg. Comprised of over 400 cottages, we are a 45 minute drive north of Riverton along Provincial Highway 8. A quick turnoff onto Grindstone Road takes you on a journey through five subdivisions all connected by scenic walking trails that are guaranteed to offer exhilarating wildlife experiences for all ages. Grindstone Park is surrounded by many Islands including Black Island, Goose Island, Deer Island, Punk and Little Punk Island and is a 20 minute boat ride to Hecla Provincial Park (offering a beautiful 18 hole golf course).

Grindstone Park offers three sandy beaches, two boat launching sights, and the famous “Grindstone General Store”. Winter activities include cross country ski trails, snowmobile trails, snowshoeing trails, walking trails and ice fishing. Once the ice melts and the temperature is right, water fanatics take to the lake to pursue their passion for boating, fishing, water skiing, and tubing. The summer months are highlighted by our very own Grindstone Days, a 30 year tradition that celebrates friends, family, and fun.

Wildlife is plentiful at Grindstone Park. Should you be lucky enough you may see moose, white tailed deer, fox, beaver, bear and otter. There are also many edible berries that can be picked, such as strawberry, raspberry, dewberry, saskatoon, and chokecherry.

The G.C.O.A. (Grindstone Cottage Owners Association) was established in December of 1978 to encourage the development of the Grindstone Provincial Park as a vacation and recreation area and to preserve same for the enjoyment of future generations. Their first order of business was to advocate for access to hydro. The Grindstone Gazette published its first newsletter in January of 1979 and has just recently assembled a 30th Anniversary CD of archived Gazettes. After 30 years, we are now excited about having a web site to showcase our wonderful park. We hope that you will enjoy traveling around our site – reading about our history, viewing our pictures, making notes to attend our special events and also supporting our advertisers by shopping locally.

We are very proud of the work done by the committees within our association – the Save our Lake committee (working with environmental groups to restore the health of Lake Winnipeg) and the Trails committee (working to establish motorized vehicle guidelines and trails in our park).
