We picked Greater Edmonton Plumbing based on a recommendation from a friend.  At the beginning things seemed fine.  Barry came out, was very personable and made it sound like our renovation (complete bathroom renovation, including ground work) was well with in their abilities.  His quote was super competitive and was able to set up a start date for his guys rather quickly.  This is where the good ends and the bad begins. They showed up and I went over what work was to be done with his guy including raising the shower head slightly higher then normal.  He seemed to have a good grasp of it.  When I offered him shop drawings for the vanity and shower he told me he didn’t need them.  I left the work to be done and assumed all was good.  Barry showed up to inspect/confirm his guy’s work and then the plumbing inspector showed up and passed all the work. Fast forward 4 weeks later, the drywall went on the walls, all was good.  Our tile guy showed up to measure for materials needed for the shower and noticed the shower head was roughed in almost 3 inches off centre and 4 inches lower then requested.  When I called Barry he sent his guys to fix it (free of charge) but commented that his guys checked it twice and the dry-wallers must have moved it.  It was all good our taper came in and fixed the hole no harm no foul. Fast forward another 2 weeks later, tile was completed and I went to install the vanity and do the finishing (because I assumed the rough in was done properly).  First problem I ran into was the plumbing for the vanity was installed in the wrong height/location.  I don’t know how this happened considering his guy said he didn’t need the shop drawings.  So I then went to install the fixtures on the shower and found his guy had failed to install the plaster ring and the cartridge was installed too far back.  I called Barry about these two problems and he and another guy came out to fix them. First I was told that no-one uses plaster rings anymore (what????) and that the wall ended up being deeper then they figured. I tried to explain that the point of a plaster ring was to match the depth to the wall but was accused of insulting him.  They managed to get the cartridge set at the right depth but when they tried to install the handle I was told there was a missing ring and it wouldn’t work (not sure how there can be a missing O-ring on a o-ringless fixture)  Barry gave me some good advice on how to get this piece replaced under warranty (which I did) but when my other plumber showed up to swap it out, once he pulled the old one out we both saw it had been melted by improper soldering. Then when Barry moved onto the fixing the vanity his solution was to cut a huge hole in the wall and put an ugly patch over it.  When I asked why his guy hadn’t looked at the shop drawings I offered I didn’t get a response. Fine they “fixed” two problems on his “dollar” to make us happy,  but gave no reason as to why they were done improperly to start with. Now, about 3 weeks after this space was occupied, the bathtub was used for the first time and we are having problems with it draining.  For it to drain properly, either it automatically flushes the toilet and then starts draining, or it back flows into the toilet and all over the floor unless you plunger it until the tub is completely drained.  When I contacted Barry about this problem I was told that the line was the proper size and the venting was correct (otherwise it wouldn’t have passed inspection) and told the lines needed to be snaked.  When I asked why it would need to be snaked he said due to the amount of drywall mud and dust in the tub (drain plug was closed and taped off, tub was vacuumed and cleaned before water was run down) and assumed that it was washed down the drain.  This I might have believed if they hadn’t screwed up 3-4 other items previous to this.
