Youth are invited to join in a mural project, focused on the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's 94 Calls to Action. Art as Action brings together youth participants, alongside elders, survivors as well as intergenerational survivors, to converse, learn from one another, and reflect on our shared history of Turtle Island. The process will begin with an open conversation, participants will then be led by an art instructor who will facilitate a specialized workshop, where participants will create artwork to be digitally rendered and printed on aluminum panels, to be later installed as murals throughout the city of Winnipeg, Treaty One Territory.

We recognize the heaviness of these topics, and although these are very critical discussions needed to be had, we at Graffiti Art Programming recognize the toll that opening up about these histories can have on our mental health. GAP will ensure a skilled and trauma-informed counsellor is available for participants, as well as survivors and artists, to have access to someone they can confide in and attain any necessary resources over the duration of the project.

Any teachers/group facilitators who are interested in signing up their youth group or class for the Art as Action Mural Project should contact Annie Beach at [email protected] or by calling 204-667-9960

Please go here. It is a safe, non-judgemental, nurturing community space that champions the arts, music and creativity. The youth that build within these walls WILL go on and do extraordinary things. And you WILL buy their art at FULL PRICE. My word. On Creator.

I took my high school art classes on field trips here and they offer good programming and have original art up on the walls that rotates regularly. I love going to field trips to this place because the kids are always surprised by what's inside, and the painting workshops are an enjoyable way to spend an afternoon.

Bias warning, I was there to set up an installation piece I'd made. Overall this is a neat gallery. There are several different display areas and a far amount of space. Normally aimed at youth, inner city, and Indigenous groups they are open minded enough to allow old white guys a chance too (thank you very much !). Check out the maps and Google for parking, we used the loading area so I forgot to check for parking, and it looks kind of tight. They are right on the #47 route though, which drops you off at the Winnipeg Fire Department Museum (another bias warning, I have firefighter relatives) which is a neat place to visit, but has only restricted hours. The gallery area is well maintained, lots of light, easy access and well worth a visit no matter what is on show.
