Fairly well maintained grounds, no issues gaining access to our loved one. Staff have been friendly.

The lady in the office was very kind and helpful. She assisted me in finding my friend's grave, and her kindness really helped me, as I was feeling very fragile.

KEEPING FAMILIES HOSTAGE IN PERPETUITY Our four parents are interred at Glenhaven Memorial Gardens by Arbour Memorial (GMG), Kingston, having purchased the plots when the organization was first setting up shop in 1970. The prices were affordable but still had to be paid for in installments. The appeal was the perpetual care. GMG’s were excited to get them as clients. Read on to see why. The last of our four parents passed away on October 1, 2018, and because she was living out of town, local arrangements had to be made. Family members travelled from the southern US and western Canada. So, we had no choice, the interment had to take place on a Saturday. The undertaker warned us that there would be a surcharge for the Saturday burial, and that we should contact GMG for the details. In meeting with the GMG representative, we learned that for a weekday burial the cost would be $1,030 plus tax. Oh yes, and because it is Saturday, the “Miscellaneous Service” upcharge would be $1,500 plus tax. This was substantiated with a list of Service Fees, June 24, 2018. The surcharge for the last two burials we had on a Saturday was $285 for each one. A 550% increase was a shock. Total cost for Saturday interment, $2,530 plus taxes. What choices did we have? We had no other alternative, then to bite the bullet!! We were counting our lucky stars that the burial wasn’t two day later, on Thanksgiving, when the Miscellaneous Service charge would have been an additional $1,300 plus taxes, for a total of $3,830 plus taxes. Now what’s involved in this pricey undertaking: 1.) a backhoe, runs same cost on weekends @ $300; 2.) An attendant directing to the site, getting time and a half, 4 hrs at $300 and 3.) a labourer to do the digging, getting time and a half, 4 hrs at $300. Taking a wild guess, the cost to GHG for a Saturday funeral would be $900. That leaves a profit of close to 200%. That’s a pretty good return in any portfolio. And they say that grave robbing is illegal these days!!
