Giant Head Estate Winery Ltd.

I guess there is a first time for everything. After visiting almost a hundred of wineries over the years this has been the first experience where we felt the owner was trying to swindle us out of an extra tasting fee. Apparently John, the owner was not having a good day because his daughter came out and apologized for his behaviour. Not a problem at all but I feel it’s worth mentioning to caution other visitors. It’s a beautiful area and there are too many wonderful wineries to visit.

Hands down my favorite winery! Jinny and her daughter are an absolute delight. I stumbled across this winery while touring the area three years ago and it has become my favorite ever since. I fell in love with the late harvest and the amazing wine collection. I can't believe how well Jinny remembers me as a few years ago we came right before close not knowing if they were open or closed and turns out to be just closing and she insisted that we come in for a tasting and she didn't mind at all. While we were tasting her mother came in and offered us cherries for free and was just a complete sweetheart. When we revisited last year Jinny remembered us and said I think my mom gave you cherries right? I was shocked for her to have such a great memory and such a truly personal experience. This year when I visit I met her daughter and can tell that those great personal traits have been passed on. Truly an amazing place I recommend you add this to your list as its a must go to place for an abundance of reasons but great customer service aside this has the best wine to enjoy and I love supporting such an all around great place who deserves to flourish. Please visit Jinny and enjoy their amazing wines I would give this place a 6/5 stars because truly above and beyond.

Best winery experience in Summerland. First the wines are excellent. The Gold award winning Merlot is fantastic. The rose and Chardonnay are also great. Silk scarf next door also makes great wines, so visit both if you are in the area. Second reason is John the owner and wine maker is one of the most passionate Winery owners I’ve ever met. Show an interest and knowledge of wine and you will make a new best friend and maybe get to try some special wines.

Highly recommend! Jess was extremely knowledgeable with fun anecdotes. Super friendly and created a very memorable experience for my husband and I on our honeymoon! Amazing wines - must visit !

If you want a rustic, sunny garden patio experience right next to acres of vineyard to taste some delicious wine, stop by here. We felt perfectly at ease, not at all like some larger commercial vineyards that can feel a bit sterile and self indulgent. The wines were all delish, but the merlot was top notch. Now to organize a nice dinner party to enjoy the bottles we purchased!

The owners of this winery must have a big head to name themselves Giant Head. Ahem…I said they must have…a…big…never mind. In truth, the winery is named after Giant’s Head Mountain, where the winery is located. They must’ve gotten here first as Giant’s Head is not small and boasts at least three other wineries. So, I guess only one is allowed to take the name of its location. Giant Head is yet another intimate estate winery where you enter a small tasting room and often enjoy a tasting hosted by the winemaker himself/herself. That may come off as an enervated response like I had enough by this point. My girlfriend and I had traveled from Osoyoos to Kelowna, and over seven days, visited 60 wineries, returning with 120 bottles. You would think when I reached Giant Head, number 50 by this point, that I would’ve suffered wine fatigue. But no, we never did. We even embarked on a second wine tour nine months later. Giant Head Winery was memorable entirely due to its winemaker, another charismatic personality obviously passionate about winemaking. The winery offers few wines for tasting, understandable since the winery only offers five varietals. Unfortunately, nothing really grabbed me, at least not enough to justify the price (they are slightly on the expensive side). And to emphasize the issue. Giant’s Head Mountain also features several more memorable wineries including Dirty Laundry. That being said, I also found Dirty Laundry too commercial. They were more interested in their brand than their wine. Giant Head was about the wine, and nothing more. In the end, that’s all that should matter. It’s worth a short visit, at the very least.

Jess made our group feel at home during our tasting. She was super knowledgeable about the winemaking process, talking us through every sip without sounding high brow and pretentious. I'd definitely recommend you stop here if you're looking for great wine tasting in a more intimate, family-run winery setting. Definitely will have to return next time I'm in the OK.
