Garderie Ile Des Chenes Daycare Inc

In 2009, a group of interested individuals surveyed the town of Ile des Chênes regarding the need for childcare in the community. The response indicated an estimated need of 100 children requiring childcare. In March 2010, a planning committee was formed to develop a bilingual childcare centre. The committee was comprised of local childcare providers and parents as members. The planning committee began fundraising and increasing awareness within the community, of the need for support to make a childcare facility a reality within the town of Ile des Chênes.

In partnership with the planning committee of the newly developed TransCanada Centre, plans were made to occupy and rent 7400 square feet of space within the TransCanada Centre to operate the childcare centre. The childcare centre was developed to accommodate 16 infants aged 12 weeks to 2 years, 48-64 preschool children aged 2-6 years, and 30-37 school-aged children from 6-12 years old. The school age program would be located within 1600 square feet of a mezzanine level of the TransCanada centre. 3000 square feet of outdoor space was designated to the childcare centre to develop a play space with plans for a natural playground.

On September 9, 2010, the Garderie Ile des Chênes Daycare was incorporated, a lease agreement was signed in December 2011; and in February 2012, the Centre was licensed by the Manitoba Early Learning and Child Care Program. The Centre opened its doors on February 7, 2012. Located within the TransCanada Centre at 1 Rivard Street in Ile des Chênes, the Centre is a separate entity and a non-profit organization, funded by the Provincial government and parent fees. The Centre looks forward to a positive relationship with the TransCanada Centre, working alongside each other to help grow the community of Ile des Chênes.
