About Churchill Wild

Nolan Booth comes from a family of outdoor adventurers, which has served him well in his role as our Director of Operations. Nolan is a cousin to our co-founder, Jeanne Reimer, and growing up in Churchill, he spent a lot of time at Dymond Lake Lodge, which was owned at the time by Jeanne’s parents.

Officially, Nolan has been with us since 2008, when he started part-time as a lodge manager, joining his wife Doreen on the Churchill Wild team. In 2013, we brought him on board full-time in his current role.

His early work background guiding beluga whale tours for a company in Churchill, working construction and dabbling in electrical lends itself well to his current role. In his teen years he did odd jobs repairing snowmobiles and cars. And later in life worked for MTS on communications systems, all which make him well suited for his career at Churchill Wild.

Shortly after Nolan joined the company, Mike and Jeanne purchased our newest and most remote property, Nanuk Polar Bear Lodge. Nolan was the brains—and some of the brawn—behind Nanuk’s rebuild, which spanned two seasons. Nanuk is a beautifully designed lodge and Nolan’s proudest professional accomplishment.

He’s currently focused on learning all he can about power systems so that he can quadruple our capacity for solar power. In the off-season, he plans renovations and enhancements that will improve the guests’ overall Churchill Wild experience.

Despite all the logistical and operational challenges that come with running remote northern lodges, when asked about his career and which job has been his favourite, there’s no hesitation. “This one.”

A trip of a lifetime viewing and hiking among polar bears at Seal River Lodge and later, hiking the tundra while camping. Boomer and Andy are excellent guides, so knowledgeable and passionate about the land and wildlife. Ben, Nicole, and the rest of the team were great hosts. The food was excellent and plentiful. We had excellent photo taking advice from Boomer and our photographer guide Jad. I would highly recommend Churchill Wild.

I have spent the last month working at Churchill wild at Dymond Lodge. It has been one of the best experiences of my life. Seeing polar bears in their natural habitat and spending nights under the northern lights listening to wolves howl have been some of my highlights. The staff are amazing and like a family. They provide a quality product for everyone to enjoy. It has been an absolute privilege. I would encourage anyone to come visit this incredible lodge for a once in a lift time experience.

I traveled with Churchill Wild to view polar bears on one of their Great Ice Bear trips in November 2021. I stayed at the remote Dymond Lake Lodge where every comfort was granted and food was great after days out watching bears and enjoying the surrounding environment. From beginning to end, they had every detail handled with excellent professionalism and amazing staff. In addition to being very fun, guides were knowledgeable in leading the group, teaching about the area and bears, and answering questions. I highly recommend Churchill Wild for a polar bear and arctic wildlife trip.

We visited Seal Lodge in Sept 2021, post-Covid. What an amazing experience! Everything was done in an extremely professional, personal manner. Communication was excellent right from the start. Churchill Wild did everything possible to make sure we had a safe, educational, rewarding experience while in their care. They managed unexpected changes in the best possible manner, making sure every detail was looked after for each individual guest. The guides were second to none both in knowledge and in their willingness to share and educate us about bears, the north, photography and anything else we asked of them. The lodge staff looked after every small detail and fed us extremely well! This felt more like a visit to cherished family than a travel excursion. And the polar bears were amazing. We witnessed bears swimming, playing in the water, a mother nursing her cub, a mother with two cubs, a sub-adult male, and so much more. The focus is always on ensuring that both bears and visitors have a safe, unobtrusive, non-threatening encounter. We highly recommend Churchill Wild - you will not be disappointed!

What an adventure and most certainly the trip of a lifetime. From the moment we arrived to the day we left, every aspect of this vacation was amazing. The Seal River Heritage Lodge, staff, chefs, and guides were outstanding. The bears were obviously the highlight and they didn't disappoint. We were able to witness dozens of bears doing bear things - eating, sleeping, strolling, swimming and eating some more. We always felt safe with our expert guides, even the day a curious cub got closer than expected. We also spent a wonderful morning in Hudson Bay up close and personal with Beluga whales. Although days were long and tiring, the action didn't stop at night. The dedicated staff let is know when the aurora borealis was on full display. The guide took the time to help with our camera settings and photo composition to capture the memories. Seeing the lights was well worth the sleep deprivation and eliminates one more thing on the bucket list, two if you include polar bears in the wild. We chose the Dual Safari trip and equally enjoyed our time at the Nanuk Polar Bear Lodge where nature was again on full display, We encountered polar bears, black bears, wolves and eagles. Once again we were catered to by a first class staff and enjoyed every moment. The scenery at both lodges was stunning. The wildlife you have to see for yourself. Certainly an unforgettable vacation experience..

Imagine stepping out into the open and seeing the sky lit up with blue and green ribbons swirling around lighting up a big lake. That would be one of the many great experiences we had at Dymond Lake Lodge for our Arctic Safari. Our entire trip was excellent, here’s why… Getting to the lodge The coordination of getting us from Winnipeg to the lodge was a smooth process. The coordination staff arranged everything for us from hotel rooms to security checks and flights. They were only a phone call away when we had questions. At the lodge The staff at the lodge were very attentive and made sure we all had what we needed. The meals were great and the rooms and common areas were extremely cozy and the bed was comfortable. We had happy hour every night before dinner. The staff were amazing and they were all super nice! The adventures Our guides were awesome! Taking us out on daily hikes to find polar bears and other wildlife and they delivered. We encountered multiple bears and during one of our hikes one actually came very close to us! We weren’t concerned because we had awesome safari guides and they were very diligent and serious about keeping us safe! Nature Nature and wildlife are very unpredictable so you have to manage your own expectations and except the fact that there is a chance you won’t see anything and this is no different. We were lucky in that we saw bears, birds, and northern lights. The other travelers and the staff We were part of a group of 15 other travelers and everyone we met we’re all good, down to earth people. We all exchanged stories, got to know each other on multiple levels and definitely created a bond and closeness towards the end. The staff and guides were all personable and willing to share their stories and experiences. The guides even put together informative and educational shows to entertain us every evening. If you’re looking for adventure, connections with other humans and nature, great photo opportunities then I would highly recommend taking a tour with Churchill Wild at Dymond Lake. Thank you to the entire staff and safari guides at Dymond Lake Lodge, you all helped make our trip wonderful!

If you want a one-of-the-kind life changing experience, come here. This is the only place you can walk with polar bears, with experienced professionals, in the most picturesque settings of the sub arctic, AND have the opportunity to see the Northern Lights all in one day! Of course, this is the wilderness, and nothing is guaranteed, but the guides tried their hardest to track and find bears; and the conditions have to be right for the lights. I guess we were VERY lucky! When you are not out looking for bears, you are learning more about the environment you are in and the wild lives around you in one of the many fascinating presentations by the guides. Their incredible knowledge of the animal lives, geological facts and cultural practices of the area is mind blowing; their passion for life is contagious and they are extremely friendly and funny. There was never a dull moment here at Dymond Lake Lodge. All the staff were so warm, and attentive. After each walk, there was always hot beverages and snacks waiting for us. The food and accommodations were first class, especially considering how remote we were. The experience we had at Dymond Lake will forever stay with us. Thank you for making all this possible Churchill Wild!
